The PGA Starts It's West Coast Swing at The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic
This week on the PGA Tour, we swing out to California for the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in La Quinta, California, just outside of Palm Springs.
This tournament includes a pro-am event, as well as the pros playing on four separate courses for their tournament. Some players shy away from the pro-am play, while others enjoy and embrace this format.
I have actually played the PGA West course at La Quinta , and had a great time, oh, about 22 years ago.
I was an okay player, then, with about a 15 handicap. The course was filled with sandtraps everywhere, some very deep around the greens and very fast undulating greens.
I shot a 93 a believe, if memory serves me right, and did beat the other people with me that day. I wasn't thrilled with my play, but it was very fun. The wind was blowing a bit, also.
Any Pete Dye course will test a high handicapper's patience and fortitude concerning his golf game.
Last week, my fantasy golf team on Yahoo Fantasy Golf did extremely well. I started Stewart Cink, Adam Scott, Zach Johnson, and Kevin Streelman.
Zach Johnson won, with Adam Scott tied for second, and Cink and Streelman had a pretty good showing as well.
This got me 208 points and moved me up 19,013 spots. Overall I have 312 points and am ranked at 41,329th. I am ahead of two of the Yahoo experts, Greg Vara and Michael Arkush.
There must be an awful lot of people who play this fantasy golf league!
This week, I will start Anthony Kim, who I am expecting a good showing, Jerry Kelly, D J Trahan, and Johnson Wagner, a good up and coming player.
On the bench in case one of them gets hot, are Justin Leonard, Steve Stricker, Woody Austin, and Kirk Triplett.
D J Trahan won this event last season, and I hope he remembers how to win again this week.
The leader of the Yahoo Fantasy Golf League is someone named Pasty, and So. so special, each with 458 points. They must have had the winners of the two previous tournaments to score so well.
There are so many players to choose from every week, and this makes it hard to predict who will do well in these tournaments from week to week.
All these players have the potential to put together four good rounds and win. In the PGA perhaps, even more than most professional sports, parity reins supreme.
I have played with professionals a few times and the ball striking precision and power is just awesome.
My short game has actually got compliments from good players, however distance on shots, they laugh merrily.
Have a great week. and make some putts.
