2012 NFL Draft: Barry Sanders Will Announce Detriot Lions' 2nd Pick

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

For the second year in a row, Detroit Lions great Barry Sanders will announce the team's second-round draft pick.

Sanders broke the news on his Twitter account.

"

Sanders also had this honor last year as, for the first time ever, the NFL had retired players call every pick in the second round.

He is the obvious pick for the Lions. Sanders played 10 seasons in the NFL. All of those came in Detroit. During that time, his electrifying jukes and moves made him a favorite of fans of all teams.

He is one of the most identifiable running backs to ever play the game, and plenty of people will tell you he is the best.

He ran for 15,269 yards at an eye-catching 5.0 yards per carry. He also had 99 rushing touchdowns.

Sanders' retirement after the 1998 season caught most people by complete surprise. He was just 1,457 rushing yards shy of passing Walter Payton as the NFL's all-time leading rusher.

That was a mark he likely would have eclipsed with one more season. His final season he rushed for 1,491 yards and the year before that he set a career-high with 2,053 rushing yards.
