WWE News: Early Report on Number of Buys for WrestleMania 28
Last year, WrestleMania XXVII pulled in just over one million buys with the return of The Rock to pay-per-view. After his match with John Cena was announced the night after, there was immediate speculation on how well this year's WrestleMania would fare.
There was no doubt that this year's show would eclipse the one-million buy mark thanks to the year-long build for Rock vs. Cena. The real question was: How high would the number go?
It turns out that the number is much higher than even the WWE expected. Yesterday, ESPN reporter Gus Ramsey tweeted the following:

"accidentally deleted my earlier tweet. Rock and Brock each sign 1 year deals. WM28 did 1.9M buys. WWE was targeting 1.5M

Wrestling sites such as wrestlingnewsworld.com have also picked up on this story, and if the number is true, it is a fantastic sign for the WWE.
Many people have been worried about TV ratings over the past couple of months. Even this past Monday's Raw, which is usually one of the most-watched programs of the year, only pulled in a 3.4 rating.
This PPV buy rate, however, may very well put all those fears to rest if it is in fact true.
Truth is, there are many ways to catch Raw in the year 2012. The Internet and DVR have played a big part in that, so it is possible these ratings are just affected by those people who are looking towards sites such as YouTube for their weekly dose of wrestling.
Whatever the case, the WWE has to be thrilled with this number, which is 400,000 buys over their projection.
Rest assured, it almost guarantees that the company will be all for trying to build next year's main event of WrestleMania in the very near future.
