Masters Picks 2012: Best Bets for Golf's Greatest Major

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

You'll read all of the predictions and hear about all of the compelling story lines ad nausea between now and the end of Sunday, so I won't bore you with any of that here.

Instead, I'll provide you with a few things you'll be just about guaranteed to see at Golf's most prestigious event.

From golfers whose every move will be covered to the likelihood of someone's heart being broken, I've compiled four unusual—though you might call them uncanny by the tournament's end—predictions.

Enjoy.

Coverage of Tiger Woods Will Dominate the Broadcast

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, seeing as the storyline heading into the tournament seems to be "Is Tiger back?"

So, be prepared for nonstop Tiger watch from Thursday to his last shot on Sunday. A Tiger victory at the Masters would attract attention from all over the sporting world, and the intrigue alone is sure to draw in fans even marginally interested in the sport.

A Final Four of Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and a Surprise Contender Will Do Battle for the Green Jacket

The two veterans with a combined seven green jackets, the game's next great superstar and somebody nobody sees coming will all be in contention on the last day of the tournament.

I'm not willing to bet against either Woods or Mickelson at Augusta, a course each golfer thrives at. But we all saw what McIlroy is capable of at the Masters last year—at least for three days—and what is he is generally capable of when he dismantled the field at last year's U.S. Open.

He'll be in the running.

As for our mystery contender, well, what fun would it be without one of those?

At Some Point, Caroline Wozniacki Will Be Shown

I don't know if she will be at the event or not, but the lovely young tennis star and girlfriend of McIlroy will be mentioned and shown at some point, whether in attendance or in past footage of the two together.

Who knew a tennis player and a golfer would form the most compelling power couple for the younger generation in sports today?

Somebody Will Collapse at Some Point, and it Will Break All of Our Hearts

Last year, it was McIlroy and his final-day round of 80 that had us all wincing and grimacing with every shot, a general sense of pity forming for the young, collapsing golfer.

If one thing is for certain, you better believe we'll see another golfer start strong and finish poorly, breaking all of our hearts. I'm not saying I want to see that, but it just seems inevitable.

If it's McIlroy again, well, he may just skip any future trips to Georgia.

Hit me up on Twitter—my tweets will remain Linsane in tribute.
