New Jersey Nets Trying to Convince Deron Williams to Stay with Their Solid Play
The New Jersey Nets season is coming to an end and seeing Deron Williams in a Nets uniform could be as well.
Williams will become a free agent after this season and will test the waters. This is the first time he will be a free agent and it is uncertain what team he will sign with.
The Nets have some factors that weigh in their favor, which makes the idea of Williams re-signing with them intriguing. They will be moving to a brand new arena in Brooklyn. The Nets also have some solid players on their roster like MarShon Brooks, Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries and Gerald Wallace.
But the most important thing for Williams is winning. The Nets are 19-36 and are 8.5 games out of the playoffs. With only 11 games left in the season, the playoffs are out of reach.
Injuries have hindered the Nets season. Lopez got bit by the injury bug twice and has only played in five games this season. Basically every player on the Nets, including Williams, has missed time because of some injury.
This has left the Nets organization and Nets fans wondering what could have been. If Lopez was able to stay healthy for the majority of the season, could the Nets be competing for a playoff spot?
The acquisition of Wallace at the trade deadline has started to look like a good move as he begins to gel well with the team. After a rocky start, Wallace has proven to be a versatile and valuable player for the Nets. He has helped the Nets make a plea for Williams to re-sign, with their play on the court.
Since winning is the most important thing for him, the Nets are trying to prove in the games they have left that they can win.
The Nets have shown some good signs this year with wins against the Mavericks, Knicks and Bulls on the road. They also have been playing well as of late, winning four out of their last six games.
In those six games, the Nets had a three-game winning streak. They also competed with the Lakers the entire game and only lost by four points.
The Nets have a tough schedule ahead against a bunch of playoff teams. This is the Nets chance to prove that they can compete with these playoff teams and it could be significant if they pull out a few wins.
With the other perks the Nets already have, they hope that they can prove to Williams that they can win and compete with any team in the league. Combine winning with a talented young roster, plenty of cap space and the move to Brooklyn, and the Nets are hoping it will be enough to convince Williams to stay.
