Bobby Petrino Motorcycle Accident: Brave Arkansas Coach Returns to Practice

Alex KayApr 3, 2012

Bobby Petrino isn’t letting a little motorcycle crash interrupt his spring practices with the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The 51-year-old coach is being released from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon and plans to attend a limited session with his team later in the day, according to Erick Smith of USA Today.

This is great news, especially considering that the accident on Sunday night left him in “stable” condition with multiple broken ribs and numerous abrasions.

Many supporters around the country were praying he would make a fast recovery, and their wish has come true.

The university issued a message about their football coach’s impending return,

"

"Coach Petrino has continued to improve and is scheduled to be released from the hospital later this (Tuesday) morning," athletics director Jeff Long said in a statement. "Doctors have cleared Coach Petrino to attend practice on Tuesday and observe from the press box. His physicians will continue to monitor his progress throughout his recovery. We look forward to Coach Petrino's continued improvement and full resumption of his duties as head football coach."

"

Bobby is going to hold a press conference at 4:45 p.m. Central Time and address the media himself before going into a press box to observe his squad during drills.

Petrino is extremely lucky that the injuries are not more serious and that he escaped relatively unharmed from the incident.

Arkansas has a hell of a football schedule coming up this year in the always-competitive SEC, and they’ll need a tough, resilient man like Petrino to guide them through it.
