Ryan Leaf Needs Guidance After Second Arrest in 4 Days

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Ryan Leaf's second arrest in just four days proves that the former No. 2 overall draft pick needs some guidance to get his life back in the right direction.

Leaf was arrested Friday in his hometown of Great Falls, Montana on charges of breaking into a house and taking prescription drugs. On Monday, he was arrested in Great Falls again on similar charges.

Leaf was first arrested on Friday after police found oxycodone pills in his golf bag that an acquaintance later said Leaf stole from his home. Then early Monday, three days after posting a $76,000 bond, he was arrested again on accusations that he broke into another home outside Great Falls, Central Montana Drug Task Force commander Chris Hickman said.

The owners walked into the home Sunday afternoon to find a "tall man with an athletic build" inside, Hickman said. The man told the owners he had the wrong address and left.

"

For Leaf to be arrested on Friday and then get arrested again on Monday for similar charges shows someone who really has a problem that needs to be addressed.

Another issue is that Leaf doesn't seem fazed by the events that have occurred over the last few days:

"

"When I advised him that he was going to be charged with another count of burglary for the events that occurred, he didn't show any surprise -- and he didn't make any confessions or admissions," Hickman said.

"

Leaf certainly could spend jail time as a result of the arrests, and if he does, maybe that would be the wake-up call he needs to change for the better.

It's one thing to make a mistake, but it's quite another to fail to learn from that mistake and to make it again just days later.

Leaf has gone through a lot of adversity in his life and has had to deal with being labelled as one of the biggest NFL draft busts in history. He was supposed to be one of the next great quarterbacks and lead the San Diego Chargers to the Super Bowl, but after several below-average seasons, he was out of football by 2002.

Hopefully, Leaf can find counseling or something for his prescription drug problems. He also needs to take responsibility for his actions and put in the effort needed to turn his life around.
