New Nike NFL Uniforms: Ranking the Best New Looks in Nike's Collection

Darin PikeApr 3, 2012

Never let it be said that men aren't interested in fashion. The much-anticipated arrival of Nike's new collection of NFL uniforms had fans of most every team eagerly awaiting today's fashion show in New York. Replacing the 6'0", 111-pound supermodels were significantly wider figures, but we've got the five best new looks from Madison Avenue.

The new uniforms aren't just about aesthetics. Nike promises better performance from the Nike Elite 51 uniforms. They are lighter, offer zoned mesh ventilation to keep players cool while on the field, offer stretch for mobility and come with customized padding options.

One team that will be hoping there isn't that much of a difference is the Philadelphia Eagles. While the other teams in their tight division are moving to the new uniforms, the Eagles will fly with their prior fabrication.

It is difficult to find a new look that doesn't look great, although the Tennessee Titans' blue on darker blue comes close.

Quite simply, the new uniforms look tough and ready for battle. Most of them have stayed with the same overall look as was used during the 2011 season, but there are five teams making bold statements.

5. Dallas Cowboys

One could argue that the Cowboys are boring. How many white jerseys can one team have? With the contrast with their pants and the dark blue in the socks, it is a great twist on their classic look. What self-respecting Cowboys fan won't be placing an order for a new jersey?

4. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals were the first team to really push the envelope with their uniforms. When they first introduced the curvy striped look, reviews were decidedly pro or adamantly con. Their 2012 offering shouldn't meet much resistance.

The Bengals have kept some tiger striping but also incorporate a tough all-black look.

3. Baltimore Ravens

Another representative from the the AFC North, the Ravens somehow made purple look tough (take note, Vikings). Fitting for their division, all of these uniforms have a hard look to them...even the Cleveland Browns.

Some uniforms missed this list because of a boring, predictable stripe on the pants. The Ravens incorporated their "B" with a solid stripe, giving them that extra flair factor.

2. San Diego Chargers

It was difficult to drop the Chargers in front of the Ravens, as I like the Ravens jerseys more. However, the lightning bolt on the Chargers' pants push them just past the Ravens.

The colors on these uniforms blend well and should make Chargers fans proud...even if the team didn't quite meet expectations in 2011.

1. Seattle Seahawks

The team that underwent the biggest overhaul earns top honors. Don't just take my word for it, though. Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley tweeted “Seahawks has the best looking Jerseys. THEY ARE SICK!”

All four NFC West teams will be playing in the new uniforms, and all four look very sharp. However, the Seahawks took that extra step with the newly-styled numbers and aggressive sleeve design.

My preference is the blue jersey with the grey pants. Some prefer the crispness of the road whites, while others will appreciate the all-blue look below. Aside from choosing between a player or a No. 12 jersey, fans will also have difficulty selecting which style to order.
