World Football's 7 Biggest Fails of the Week: Dalglish, Ronaldinho, Aguero

Michael CummingsJun 7, 2018

Football can't always be the beautiful game. Sometimes it's also a game of hilarious, horrendous failures.

Or, as the interwebs would call them, FAILs.

That's what we're here to document today, and we've got a solid septet of FAILs for the debut run.

Some come from football legends like Ronaldinho and Kenny Dalglish. Another involves Andy Carroll.

Questions? Comments? You know what to do.

The Fake-out Free-Kick Routine

1 of 7

Is this the FAIL that wasn't?

On Monday night, Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs lined up to take a free kick.

They both approached the ball at the same time and then both stopped—as if they had accidentally interrupted each other's attempt.

But was it really an accident?

As 101 Great Goals points out, Sir Alex Ferguson's teams have done this before.

In 2001, Giggs and David Beckham tried something kind of similar.

And way back in 1983, Ferguson's Aberdeen did it against Bayern Munich in the Cup Winners' Cup.

Ronaldinho's Awful Miss

2 of 7

Even legendary players miss sometimes.

Case in point: Ronaldinho for Flamengo against Bangu over the weekend.

So, this raises some interesting Jack Black-style sub-questions:

Is it in fact unfair to criticize a formerly great artist for his latter-day sins?

Is better to burn out than to fade away?

Shoo Fly, Don't Bother Me

The same questions could be asked of Kenny Dalglish these days.

After Dalglish's Liverpool lost to Newcastle on Sunday, the Reds found themselves in eighth place—behind crosstown rivals Everton.

If that wasn't bad enough, Dalglish was seen on live TV being shooed off the pitch by his own player.

Even if that player was Steven Gerrard, that's never a good sign.

Carroll's Walk of Shame

4 of 7

Sticking with Liverpool for a moment, the Reds' £35 million striker Andy Carroll again failed to score on Sunday.

But he did pick up a booking for simulation against his old team. Yay!

Naturally, Carroll had some reportedly choice words for both his current and former manager when he was substituted.

And then the Newcastle fans had a few choice words (and gestures) for their former player as he made the walk of shame off the pitch.

Iker's Digging for Gold

Let's face it: Boogers are an unsavory fact of life.

Most of us, however, don't wipe our nasal byproducts on unsuspecting children.

Iker Casillas did (before Real Madrid's win over APOEL last week), and now that kid will be the envy of all his friends.

Or something like that.

The Other Cavani

6 of 7

Everybody knows how great a player Napoli's Edinson Cavani is.

As for his brother, all we really know is that he's a bad teammate.

Check out this video. That's Edinson's brother Tim Riggins (just kidding, he goes by the name Gully) being sent off for pushing his teammate's face.

Twice.

Aguero's Mystery Injury

Finally, here's the latest update on the mysterious injury suffered by Manchester City forward Sergio Agüero.

That is all.
