Wrestlemania 28 Results: Potential Paths for John Cena After Loss to The Rock

Eric BallJun 1, 2018

The Rock came, saw, and conquered John Cena Sunday night at WrestleMania and was gone in a flash.

Rock is going back to the movies and Hollywood fame, while Cena is left to pick up the pieces and regroup.

It wasn’t that Cena lost the match, in fact he was in it until the very end, but with The Rock out of the picture, there needs to be a new feud for Cena to “rise above.”

New WWE Rumors 🤫

So what are the options for the WWE creative team? Here are three suggestions to ensure Cena regains his mojo and is able to shake off what happened Sunday night in Miami.

1. Fade Behind the Scenes For a While

Cena is the face of the sport and has been so for a long time now. With another ultra-impressive performance by CM Punk, let him take over for a bit. Allow Cena to have some well-deserved time off to recoup for WrestleMania and give fans a chance to see up-and-comers like Sheamus shine.

That way a return at something like SummerSlam would have much more meaning and the chances of getting burnt out on Cena wouldn’t exist.

2. Rematch With Rock

This would be a lazy way out, but there is no doubt the match would be just as exciting. Yet considering the hype around this past matchup was going on for essentially a year, I’m not sure the creative team can squeeze much more out of this one. “Once in a Lifetime?” Let’s hope so.

3. Turn Heel

There are plenty of heel theories floating around and it makes sense.

Why continue to “Rise above the Hate” when you can be the evil hero that crashes the party? Punk is fresh off beating Chris Jericho despite his best efforts to humiliate him about his family. His popularity is now at an all-time high.

How about a Cena-Punk feud with John playing the bad guy role?

Cena has always been the golden boy so this would be a shocker to his loyal fanbase. Watching him get more aggressive on the mic would be a good idea, and it would open up all kinds of different storylines moving forward.

This is my favorite suggestion and the one we can only hope comes to fruition. Regardless, it’s going to be very interesting to see how Cena’s character is handled from this point going forward.
