Nike NFL Jerseys: Seattle Seahawks Are Desperate for a Complete Uniform Makeover

Zach KruseJun 7, 2018

While there will always be outliers, the NFL as a whole has a very aesthetically pleasing uniform platform across the league. Few teams could really be considered terrible-looking overall, with the vast majority wearing tradition-bound and visually pleasing combinations every Sunday.

However, one team currently does not fit that description.

With primary jerseys that feature steel-blue helmets on steel-blue jerseys and steel-blue pants, the Seahawks are on steel-blue overload. There's an argument to be made that Seattle features the worst-looking primary jerseys in the NFL.

And don't even get me started on the highlighter-green alternate tops they wore in a game in 2009. Lime is a "fun" color, but it doesn't belong on an NFL uniform. Ever.

This uniform truth—pun intended—is one reason why the Seahawks' pending uniform makeover from Nike, who has assumed control of the NFL's apparel and will unveil new jerseys tomorrow in New York City, is a good thing for the franchise and the league.

According to Danny O'Neil of The Seattle Times, the Seahawks are expected to alter their logo slightly and possibly even overhaul the jerseys.

On the logo change:

"

A Seahawks logo featuring what appeared to be a gray lower stripe behind the bird's head appeared on two recent segments on the NFL's television network. It was reminiscent of the silver stripe that was part of the franchise's original logo.

"

On a new jersey:

"

The Seahawks' new uniform is expected to have a third, alternate jersey that will be gray, according to a source. This jersey would be a third option to the blue, which is typically worn at home, and the white shirts often worn on the road.

"

The Seahawks were also the only team not to release an apparel line Sunday, which makes you wonder what exactly Seattle and Nike has planned for the release Tuesday.

It's possible the Seahawks could be the guinea-pig change for Nike in 2012.

You had to expect Nike to pick one franchise to make major changes to, and it appears that it will be the Seahawks next year. Considering the state of the jerseys right now, any kind of modification is likely to be a good one.

Don't expect an Oregon-type look for Seattle in 2012, but they should look more visually pleasing by Tuesday.
