NFL Pop-Up Shop: Where Will the Next One Pop Up?

Chris TrapassoApr 2, 2012

The NFL opened its first ever official store in New York City this morning, a 10,000-foot space that will have its doors open for the next month leading up to the NFL draft.

Why has it taken the league this long to open an apparel store? Sure, NFLShop.com is the biggest store of them all, but sporting apparel giant Nike has had variety of store locations dotted across the United States for quite some time.

In this article, I'll examine where the next NFL pop-up shop could open.

First, opening the store is a brilliant move by the NFL, with Nike taking over as the main apparel and jersey provider. Other NFL licensees are New Era, Under Armour, GIII, VF and Wilson, according to NFL.com.

New Nike uniforms will be released to the public on April 3rd.

Commissioner Roger Goodell was in attendance for the grand opening, so it was obviously a major event for the league, and I fully expect the store to make a killing with the draft rapidly approaching.

After the league observes and analyzes the vast success that should come from the store, Chicago would be the next logical location site.

Chicago has the third-biggest population in the United States and the second-biggest city that houses an NFL team. It is located in the heart of the Midwest and does extremely well in tourism industry for city that lacks favorable weather. Just as important, it's in the center of NFC North country, a region with a variety of Bears, Lions, Packers and Vikings fans. Not to mention, the Bears are one of the leagues most storied and recognizable franchises.

Also, Illinois borders Indiana, so Colts fans are nearby as well.

Will another NFL pop-up shop "pop up" in Chicago?

It should.

To me, it's only a matter of time.
