Nike NFL Uniforms: 5 Teams That Need Subtle Changes

Zach KruseJun 2, 2018

Nike and the NFL are set to unveil their new partnership on Tuesday, with Nike presenting for the first time their changes to the league's uniform.

While major changes aren't expected on a league-wide scale, there are some teams that could benefit from a few subtle changes. Here are the top five:

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings fell into the trap that many have over the last 15 years. Instead of sticking with a uniform design that was both aesthetically pleasing and time-honored, Minnesota went down the modern road and added a bunch of striping and colors that now serve as eye sores. The white strokes with yellow borders down the sides and pants ruin the whole visual.

Nike shouldn't look more modern with the Vikings—a trip back in time would do their look wonders.

Washington Redskins

There's nothing wrong with the Redskins' primary look, but the franchise is about to enter a new era in roughly a month or so and could use a uniform change to mark the occasion.

With a new quarterback—likely to be Robert Griffin III—almost certain to be the team's pick at No. 2 overall in April, the team should match its change at the top with a deviation in the jersey look. Burgundy and gold stays, and no black should be added, but a slight moderation is doable.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks may have had the worst looking uniform combination in the NFL over the past couple of seasons. The blue on blue unis need to go, and who ever put together the lime green jersey combo probably should be kept far away from the recovery process.

Seattle should be one of the teams that makes a big change for 2012, but simply going back to a more traditional Seahawks look would be a big improvement for next season.

Cleveland Browns

I hate messing with tradition, and there are few things in the NFL as sacred as the uniform look of some teams. The Browns, despite a rocky history, are a part of that throng of teams that probably shouldn't be messed with.

Still, the Browns have a lot of blank history to overcome, and putting a little more bark into the uniforms for the future could help set the stage for a new era of Browns' football. Nothing major should be done, but I think Nike could do some visually pleasing things with Cleveland's look.

Cincinnati Bengals

Nothing should be done to the Bengals' helmets, as you could argue Cincy has the most unique lids in the NFL. But everything lower than the helmet should be up for a change.

I think the Bengals and Nike could come up with a better way to incorporate the stripes into the jersey, as the 2011 version is a bit overdone. These aren't terrible uniforms, but a few slight changes could make them one of the very best.
