New York Jets: QB Storyline Makes Them Early Favorites for HBO's 'Hard Knocks'

Jeff GrantApr 2, 2012

The New York Jets have been established as the early betting favorites at Bovada sportsbook to appear in the upcoming season of HBO's Hard Knocks, which shouldn't be a surprise due to the huge ratings it would draw because of the franchise's quarterback situation.

Tim Tebow's arrival in the Big Apple will place tremendous pressure on incumbent starter Mark Sanchez, as he has already witnessed the type of hysteria that the former Denver Broncos star is capable of creating amongst NFL fans.

Let's take a closer look at the nine teams that are receiving action in the betting market to star in the upcoming sports series.

Green Bay Packers

1 of 9

The Green Bay Packers would have been a tremendous fit for the show last year after beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV, but that storyline has since faded.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers would have likely been a star of the show given to his strong performance in this year's Super Bowl pregame show on NBC.

Longest shot on the board.

Betting odds: 15/1

Philadelphia Eagles

2 of 9

Due to last year's disappointing 8-8 record, I doubt that the Philadelphia Eagles will want this unnecessary distraction around the training complex.

Finding a replacement for Pro Bowl tackle Jason Peters is probably higher on the team's priority list, as he suffered a ruptured Achilles.

I don't see this one happening.

Betting odds: 12/1

Indianapolis Colts

3 of 9

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to select Stanford Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck with the first pick overall in this month's NFL draft. But I don't think that storyline could carry a reality series for a rebuilding franchise.

I do believe that the betting odds would be lower for this offering if Peyton Manning was back under center, but he's now in the Mile High City.

Next.

Betting odds: 10/1

Dallas Cowboys

4 of 9

The Dallas Cowboys would obviously be a huge draw from a ratings standpoint, while the storyline would definitely interest football fans in general.

Watching the New York Giants win last year's Super Bowl has to be a source of motivation in the locker room, which would likely translate well on the small screen.

Jerry Jones also loves the attention. The franchise has already appeared on the series two times.

I'd watch it again.

Betting odds: 10/1

New England Patriots

5 of 9

The New England Patriots may have warmed up to this idea if they had won Super Bowl XLVI, but that didn't happen, instead falling to the New York Giants inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

I believe this is truly the longest shot on the board and offers absolutely no value at this price.

Betting odds: 15/2

New York Giants

6 of 9

The New York Giants offer a lot to the series as defending Super Bowl champions, but they are clearly the second choice in the Big Apple for creating juicy story lines.

Quarterback Eli Manning doesn't excite me on camera unless he's leading his team to victory with another fourth-quarter drive on Sundays.

HBO may elect to film Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz salsa dancing to fill up an hour of programming this summer.

I'm not buying in.

Betting odds: 5/1

New Orleans Saints

7 of 9

Without a doubt, the New Orleans Saints are the dark horse candidate to appear on HBO's Hard Knocks this summer.

Head coach Sean Payton will likely be out for the entire year, which would provide great drama for the series heading into the 2012 NFL season.

I'd definitely watch and will probably take a shot at this price in the betting market.

Betting odds: 5/1

Denver Broncos

8 of 9

The Denver Broncos have seemingly been auditioning to be featured in this series since starting former quarterback Tim Tebow midway through the 2011 NFL season.

Enter Peyton Manning.

He's recovering from a neck injury that kept him sidelined in Indianapolis all of last year, which could generate tremendous buzz for the show during the summer.

I'd definitely tune in to watch Manning and John Elway talk about the quarterback position.

Betting odds: 3/1

New York Jets

9 of 9

Regular soap operas are going off the air due to smallish ratings, but this would be every sports fan's guilty pleasure.

Due to the inability to cash in on Super Bowl promises over the last few years, I just don't see head coach Rex Ryan embracing the idea of being featured on this series for a second time.

The quarterback battle between Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow will receive the most press coverage of any story during training camp this year, which leads me to believe that HBO will be on the outside looking in.

I definitely recommend taking a shot on one of the other eight teams in this proposition.

Betting odds: 3/2
