NFL Rumors: Why RGIII to the Colts Won't Happen

John RozumJun 7, 2018

Robert Griffin III to the Indianapolis Colts is certainly an interesting situation, as that would open the door for Andrew Luck to the Washington Redskins.

And it's not the worst idea in the world for the Colts, because they do need a franchise quarterback and RG3 has excellent potential on top of all his tangible and intangible attributes. However, we also cannot expect this to happen either.

The buzz about Robert Griffin being chosen ahead of Andrew Luck doesn’t fly with a lot of astute NFL front office men.

Many NFL men think Luck remains the surest bet in the draft, and that matters when the player goes No. 1 overall.

Also, in an article by Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, top NFL minds agree that Luck is the No. 1 option:

"

Of eight NFL coaches and executives who were polled at league meetings Tuesday, all of them said they believed Luck would and should be the top pick.

“Luck is just a safer pick,” one AFC executive said." "Griffin might end up being better, no question. He’s an amazing athlete. But the learning curve with him is going to be a little longer because of the things he did in college.”

"

As for the actual draft itself, both Luck and RG3 fit the mold for Indianapolis and Washington at quarterback. Both franchises are basically splitting hairs with each prospect as both players have incredible potential.

Luck however, has been the more consistent college player, proven to be more durable and was part of a pro-style system. So at the forefront of it all, Luck has the slightest of edges as the better and more complete player.

Now take a look at the comparative advantages of how each quarterback fits. Luck is better suited for Indianapolis as the Colts need a balanced attack to move the ball against top defenses like Jacksonville and Houston.

RG3 is a better fits to Washington, simply because the NFC East is loaded with stud pass-rushers and a more mobile guy who can continuously be an effective scrambler works. Luck no doubt can scramble, but not like Griffin.

Everything said, we have to expect both quarterbacks to go No. 1 and No. 2 overall. Otherwise each franchise will have missed a golden opportunity to get a franchise quarterback.
