The Rock vs. John Cena: WrestleMania 28 Proved Cena Is Top Man in WWE

Brandon GalvinApr 2, 2012

There isn't a single performer more important to wrestling than John Cena right now, and he proved it at WrestleMania 28.

Despite losing to The Rock in an electric, back-and-forth match, Cena cemented his legacy as the top man in the company.

Cena was the shining star of the build-up to 'Mania. He continued to put The Rock in his place and always looked far more comfortable on the microphone. He once again looked to be the better man when the two finally squared off in Miami.

From the get-go, you could tell Cena was the man the people truly came to see. Just like at any other event, it was Cena who brought out the best and biggest reactions from the crowd. They were loudest when they were booing him, we heard the "Let's Go Cena-Cena Sucks!" chants, and it was Cena who provided the best spots of the match.

Though we had to expect Cena to carry the match, considering it was The Rock's first singles match in nine years, it was just a bit all too obvious throughout. If it wasn't for Cena, this match, dare I say, may have been a flop.

In a rare effort, The Rock went to the top rope and attempted a Flying Crossbody. Cena rolled through and displayed insane strength by lifting up Rocky from his knees and hoisting him on his shoulders. It was such an incredible feat that even the crowd was amazed!

Cena then got the crowd going at the end when he attempted The People's Elbow in true heel fashion. He may have lost the match, but he proved throughout the Main Event that he is the man the people truly pay to see.

Nobody brings out the crowd reactions like he does. It doesn't matter what he does, whether it's simply coming out to the ring or putting on an epic display of strength, John Cena brings out the greatness of each and every crowd. WWE programming wouldn't be the same without its true star.
