Arkansas Football: Kane Whitehurst's Arrest Adds to Razorbacks' Woes

We ended last week with talk of the arrest of a football player. That would be Hawaii quarterback Cayman Shutter. So it seems only fair to kick off this week in the same fashion.

Arkansas reserve wide receiver Kane Whitehurst is the latest athlete to be arrested. The backup wide-out was brought in late Saturday, early Sunday, and charged with possession and drug paraphernalia. This story's most interesting tidbit?

He was arrested at 3:39 a.m. after complaints that a vehicle reportedly driven by Whitehurst was squealing its tires at the Garland Avenue Parking Deck on the UA campus.

Yup, squealing tires was allegedly his downfall. Not a drug bust. Not being fantastically high in public. A kid from Georgia, burning out his tires in a parking deck with no regard for the alleged pot and pot-smoking device in his vehicle.

Whitehurst adds to the Hogs off-field problems by joining Jason Peacock on the police blotter. Peacock was arrested a couple weeks ago for the unauthorized use of a debit card to purchase gas. Peacock is a bigger blow. He was expected to be the starter through the spring.

While this isn't good news, the redshirt freshman has not been a big revelation for the Hogs. The big news this spring has been the play of the offense as a whole. This past Saturday, the offense destroyed new coordinator Paul Haynes' defense in a scrimmage.

At No. 3 on the depth chart, Whitehurst had a ways to go and a suspension for this misdemeanor charge will not help his cause. Overall, though, Bobby Petrino's offense is in great shape, while the major issue for the Razorbacks remains the same; find a way to fix the defense.
