6 NFL Coaches Whose Names Will Always Be Linked to Vacancies
Welcome to the "recycled" coaches forum.
Here are six coaches, whether they want to be included in the search for a new coach, always seem to get their names attached to vacancies in the NFL.
I am not sure whether that is a lucky thing or a good thing. But these coaches are respected enough to come in and get the job done.
In time, you will hear names like Rob Chudzinski of the Panthers and Brian Schottenheimer of the Rams as perennial candidates for open positions in the NFL.
Here are a few that are always considered.
Bill Cowher
1 of 6It appears that he has property or homes all over the United States.
The CBS commentator has not moved from the desk since he left the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was linked to jobs in Jacksonville, San Diego, Carolina and Miami.
And he is still a commentator who is not trolling the sidelines.
Tony Dungy
2 of 6When he left the Indianapolis Colts, he said he was done.
Now he is the most respected former coach in professional football.
Dungy appears on "NBC Football in America" and still has not taken anyone up on an offer to coach. Actually, we are not sure if anyone has come calling, but his name always seems to be on the tip of everyone's tongue when it comes to coaching vacancies.
Herm Edwards
3 of 6He seems content on working at ESPN as an analyst with matching socks.
Edwards did his coaching in both Kansas City and in New York with the Jets.
A former defensive back in the NFL, he knows a thing or two about putting together a defense and is a member of Tony Dungy's coaching tree.
Jon Gruden
4 of 6He loves breaking down quarterback film.
The former head coach in both Oakland and Tampa Bay. Gruden is supposedly an offensive guru. His brother Jay is now the offensive genius in the family.
Gruden could resurface again, but the gig he has on "Monday Night Football" is pretty sweet.
Bill Parcells
5 of 6The Tuna is being courted by the Saints right now.
He has either been a head coach or a general manager or both with the Cowboys, Patriots, Jets, Giants and Dolphins. Some stops were successful and some were not.
Now, it will be interesting to see what happens with Parcells and the Saints with all that is going on with the NFL and the "Bounty Gate."
Parcells can make your team or break your team.
Brian Billick
6 of 6You get the feeling by the way he talks on the NFL Network that he wants back into the coaching ranks in the NFL.
Maybe someone will call his name next season or during 2012 when some owner has had enough (San Diego, Dallas, Cleveland).
Billick was thought to be a consideration for the Jacksonville Jaguars when they fired then-coach Jack Del Rio.
"They’re looking for young and cheap, and I'm neither," Billick said on the NFL Network, via NFL.com.
