Women's Tournament 2012: Brittney Griner Makes Baylor Bears Unbeatable

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Baylor Lady Bears superstar Brittney Griner is amazing, and she alone takes a very good basketball team and makes the unbeatable. Standford doesn't have a shot at stopping Griner. Thus, they won't be able to beat Baylor in the 2012 NCAA women's Final Four.

Griner is once in a lifetime good.

She's a phenom. She's the best at what she does. What she does is absolutely dominate basketball games.

As the old saying goes, "You can't stop her, you can only hope to contain her."

She's averaging 23.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, but those gaudy numbers don't even get closer to doing Griner's tournament play justice.

She put up 23 points 15 rebounds and nine blocks last round against Tennessee, 35 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks against Georgia Tech, 25 points and six blocks against Florida and 14 points and three blocks against UCSB.

Oh, how could I forget the dunk that she threw down at the end of the win against Georgia Tech?

Like I said, you can't stop her.

Teresa Edwards, a five-time Olympian and last year's director of player personnel with the Tulsa Shock, the San Jose Mercury News regarding Griner, "When you can catch, turn, pivot and dunk on someone, you never seen that. You won't see that in another thousand years."

That's extremely high praise from someone who knows the game very well, and it's 100 percent warranted. Griner is that good.

The Bears would be a very talented team without Griner, but with her they go to another level.

Her domination of the paint opens up the floor for the rest of her teammates on offense, and allows them to focus more on their assignments on defense.

Believe me, if somebody gets burned, Griner will be there to clean up the paint with one of her awe-inspiring blocks. She changes the way the other team has to play offense.

The paint is essentially off limits.

Stanford will give the Lady Bears a run, and it will probably be their toughest fight yet, but I don't see anyway Baylor is going to leave this tournament with a loss.

Not if Griner has anything to say about it.

There's a reason Baylor hasn't lost a game this season, and that reason wears No. 42.
