The Doctor's Weekly Smackdown Recap: The 58 Things We Learned, Loved and Hated

The Doctor Chris MuellerMar 30, 2012

Tonight's Smackdown was nothing more than a bunch of recap videos with a couple of matches thrown in for good measure.

It should really not surprise anyone that WWE is playing it safe the week of WrestleMania so they don't lose any more talent to injuries, but a two-hour show with two matches is pretty bad in my opinion.

There was no Divas match this week, but I will be taking predictions for the WrestleMania Divas match on my live WrestleMania 28 coverage, where I will be doing my first-ever live list of the things we learn, love and hate form the show.

Tonight's show was so filled with replays that there was very little to report on, so this ended up being my shortest recap list to date.

I truly appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, each week, I recap Smackdown with a long list.

The entries are made up of equal parts humor, recap, play-by-play, revelations, speculations, questions, answers and anything else I notice during the show. I sometimes comment on commercials too just because I get bored during them.

I have two games each week as well. The first game is trying to correctly predict the length of the next Divas match to the second. The other game is coming up with new and humorous nicknames for David Otunga revolving around a specific part of his character or attire from that week.

This game has produced such wonderful nicknames as the Macchiato Mauler, The Sweater-vest Savior, The Bow-tie Brawler, The Caffeinated Crippler and my personal favorite, the Folger's Soldier.

I try and interject some fun into these lists, so I hope you have fun reading this week's list of the 58 things we learned, loved and hated from the show.

1. The show starts off with Zack Ryder coming to the ring for a match.
2. A video of Ryder is shown where he talks about his relationship with Eve and Team Teddy winning at Mania.
3. Drew McIntyre comes out next.
4. Am I the only one who think McIntyre looks like a mid-90s Lorenzo Lamas right now?
5. I loved The Renegade; I don't care what anyone thinks.
6. I just realized that Matt Striker and Josh Matthews are on commentary. Where the hell is Booker and Cole?
7. Ryder and Mac Attack trade offense before Ryder takes the advantage.
8. Very nice move by McIntyre when Ryder leapfrogs and he gives him a knee to the face as he came back down.
9. Mac Attack is back in control, and he drops Ryder with a nice spinning gut-buster move.
10. Good variety in McIntyre's move-set tonight.
11. A Ryder chant breaks out, but it's not enough to make him come back.
12. Drew sold a boot to the face when he jumped off the middle rope really well. He looked punch drunk for a second.
13. Ryder hits the Broski Boot for a near fall.
14. Holy crap. Drew just gave Ryder a boot to the face that looked so convincing that I had to rewind and take a second look.
15. Ryder ends up hitting the Rough Ryder for the pin and the win.
16. I am a little surprised Eve wasn't with him given their storyline right now.
17. That was probably the best match from both of these guys in months.
18. Drew looked great and Ryder kept up with him the whole time. Nice way to start the show.
19. They show a graphic hyping the video which chronicles the feud between Undertaker and Triple H. I get the feeling this will be another video package-heavy show tonight.
20. OK, this is weird. Now we see Cole and Lawler at Fan Axxess in Miami.
21. I actually think the whole Fan Axxess thing is a pretty cool thing for WWE to do. It's almost like a mini-wrestling Comic Con sort of event.
22. WWE should do a wrestling style Comic Con event over the course of a week to see if it is a popular idea. I think it could work. There are generations of wrestling fans that would love an event like that if it was big and extravagant.
23. I do like this Taker/Triple H video because it is like a little walk down memory lane. They show several non-WWE superstars, which they used to avoid doing in these promo videos.
24. A recap of Eve and Beth Phoenix invading E! is shown.
25. As if any of those producers at E! could really make Beth Phoenix leave. She could probably bench press most of the people who work at that gimmick of a channel.
26. Hmmm. Three commercial breaks before the next match. This is not a good sign for the rest of the show.
27. Who else wants to boycott this Three Stooges movie with me?
28. We are back, and we get yet another video.
29. This one shows the Punk vs. Jericho feud from the beginning.
30. Lots of old Jericho footage makes this a pretty cool video.
31. I still think that the Smackdown before Mania should feature a little more action.
32. The graphic they showed for Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny didn't show Booker T. What's up with that?
33. When we return, we get a replay of the events from Raw where Santino beat Otunga in a Captain vs. Captain match.
34. Johnny Ace has really become an animated character recently. He gets so physical when he used to be very stoic-looking.
35. OK, now they fill in the missing spots after a few more recaps.
36. Man, this sucks. There is nothing to really comment on since this show is all recap and video packages.
37. So, did anyone watch Community last night?
38. Whoa. They made a wrestling ring with a foam pit in it? I'm 28 and I want to go play in that thing right now.
39. Seriously! More videos! It's been over an hour since the start of the show, and we have seen one match.
40. Honestly, what is Lawler thinking with those shirts?
41. Yes!
42. The lights go out, and Jericho is on the stage to some major heat. Time for the next match.
43. It looks like Kofi is being fed to Jericho before Mania for a win tonight.
44. I have a theory. WWE had a bunch of extra blue shirts after the Air Boom shirts never sold, so they redesigned them to be Kofi's new shirt.
45. Jericho is playing up his heel status early on with an eye poke.
46. Kofi gets in some nice offense, and Jericho is down outside the ring.
47. Awesome spot. Jericho knocked Kofi off the ropes when he went to springboard in, and Kofi sold it like a pro.
48. When we return from commercial, the tables have turned, and now, Kofi is down outside the ring.
49. Jericho takes off the protective cover on the barricade and slams Kofi's head into it.
50. Kofi rolls through into a roll up for a close two-count.
51. These are two great wrestlers and the crowd looks dead. I don't get it.
52. Those ring ropes are basically steel cables with a little tape over them. There is no way that being pushed down against one of those with the full force of another superstar on your back doesn't hurt, especially if they are using the top rope to apply more pressure.
53. Kofi goes for the Trouble in Paradise, but Jericho catches him and makes him tap out to end the match.
54. The exchange between John Cena and The Rock from Monday is shown after the break.
55. I guess tonight's show is only going to have two matches since there is not enough time left to have another.
56. I totally get that WWE is really busy heading into Mania and did not want to take any unnecessary risks with their talent, but did we really have to go two hours with only two matches?
57. The show was pretty much a recap of everything heading into Mania with two decent matches thrown in. I remember last year heading into Mania that Smackdown was a regular show with full matches.
58. Oh well. Please check back throughout the weekend for updates to my live WrestleMania coverage, where I will be doing my first ever live recap list of the things we learn love and hate from the show. If you would like to make a prediction for the WrestleMania Divas match, then go to the live blog and leave your times in the comments section.
