WWE Smackdown Results: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Justin WatryMar 30, 2012

WWE Smackdown was an enjoyable show tonight. I love their special each year before WrestleMania. It gives the company a chance to promote the festivities in Miami, as well as have a few solid segments inside an arena.

If I had to give the Blue Brand a grade, I would fall in the B range. Very nicely done!

Zack Ryder defeating Drew Mcintyre was a fun start to the show. It still baffles my mind that WWE brought back the former United States Champion as the same comedy character he was before.

Either way, both men put on a good show. It gave time to two young stars competing in a mid-card match at Mania. Simple, yet effective.

The video for Undertaker vs. Triple H this Sunday was great. The added element of Shawn Michaels as referee certainly wasn't needed, but all three have done a wonderful job. Once again, the WWE production crew came through.

The promo video about Chris Jericho and CM Punk another great feature. Whoever puts these videos together needs a major pay raise. The work is exceptional week-in and week-out.

With that being said, it was interesting to see Jericho in a match against Kofi Kingston. The two had some good matches a few years ago, and that one was just as entertaining.

Jericho picked up the win, as he should. Kofi looked strong but wasn't the focus here.

I liked Big Show coming out to the ring. He seemed very confident tonight for some reason. Could we be seeing a new Intercontinental Champion in two days?

Show's feud with Cody Rhodes has been solid television, and somebody may be getting their first "Wrestle Mania moment" in Miami this Sunday. We will see.

WWE aired a quality promo video for Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan. A lot of the attention was on AJ, so that was very intriguing. I doubt she plays a part in the finish at Mania, but it was nice of WWE to give their World Title match a segment.

Also, I loved the different WWE legends speaking on the end of an era. They put it over as being a huge event, and you couldn't skip it for anything.

Edge, Pat Patterson and others really gave the Heck on a Deck match an "epic" feeling. I know I will be watching Sunday. There is no way any wrestling fan wants to miss this.

Finally, the ending segment with The Rock and John Cena was perfect. I said it on Tuesday, but their Raw promo segment may have just shattered PPV records across the board. It was that good!

The Bad

I understand the matches were filmed Monday night. I understand this wasn't a "real" Smackdown episode. I get that.

On that note, why was so much attention given to the Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny match?

It should have been given attention. Of course! However, a lot of segments were spent on the battle of the General Managers. I hope that ends next Monday, but I have my doubts.

The Ugly

Again, I know all of this was done Monday. That was made very apparent. Even at that, was Matt Striker the only commentator available here? Sorry, this guy just doesn't do it for me.

Was Ernest "The Cat" Miller busy? Couldn't WWE bring back Mike Adamle? I would have rather heard John Morrison speak than Striker. Yes, I am serious.
