Fantasy Baseball Sleepers 2012: Veterans That Will Be Reborn

Gabe ZaldivarMar 29, 2012

Hooray for spring training. It truly is the most optimistic time for any sports fan. With that in mind, we take a look at the seasoned vets that will prove they are not yet done dominating the majors.

Fantasy drafts are fast coming to a close which means you have just a couple days to fit in that added research that will give your club that fantasy shine.

If not, you may soon see some of these sleepers on the waiver-wire or available at tremendous value via trade.

These are the guys that look like they are over-the-hill, but aren't. We know better, and a stirring 2012 campaign will make you look like a genius when you take a chance on them.

1. Ryan Roberts:

We start off with the most interesting veteran on the list, largely because we would never say that the 31-year-old is over-the-hill, but rather that his 2011 season was a blip on an otherwise mediocre career.

Many will argue that his post-April numbers signal that he is done amazing us fantasy baseball owners, but I would disagree.

Roberts will be reborn with the start of another season, and his three spring homers shows that he is ready and willing to bring back the pop he showed in the early goings last year.

2. Hiroki Kuroda:

The 37-year-old may have wanted to stay with the Dodgers, but he will prove that putting on pinstripes was the right decision.

The move to the American League will affect the ERA, and we expect a bit of a rise in Kuroda's WHIP as well.

However, he is showing that he is in prime form to eat innings once again as he posts a solid 2.91 ERA in the Spring.

3. Carlos Beltran

At 34, Beltran is no longer in his prime and may see only a couple more years of relevant production. It's time to enjoy the last gasps of fantasy numbers while you can.

Forget this spring, because he has injuries and the flu that have kept his preseason numbers looking pedestrian.

He had a solid .391 OBP with New York last year and kept hitting in San Francisco. He is not nearly done getting on base and giving the occasional show of power.
