Alabama Football: Reaction and Analysis from Crimson Tide Pro Day

Barrett SalleeJun 2, 2018

Alabama held its second pro day of the spring on Thursday after starters Trent Richardson, Mark Barron and Courtney Upshaw missed the first edition with various injuries. With the stars in play, NFL representatives from all 32 teams descended on Tuscaloosa to take in the event.

Running back Trent Richardson still managed to impress everyone on hand. He clocked a 4.45 40-yard dash time, but Richardson—known to be one of the strongest players on Alabama's team—was disappointed in his performance on bench press, according to AL.com's Andrew Gribble.

Disappointed with 25 reps of 225 pounds? Richardson is a monster. Just how much of a monster? He even knocked down the people that were interviewing him for a job on Thursday.

Linebacker Courtney Upshaw didn't run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, and now we know why. The 6'2", 255-pounder clocked 4.73 and 4.76 40-yard dash times on Thursday. While Upshaw is more known for his quickness than his straight-line speed, his draft stock will take a hit as a result of the slow 40 time.

Alabama safety Mark Barron performed well in front of judging eyes. Barron is recovering from bilateral sports hernia surgery, but it didn't show. His 40-yard dash time of 4.53 is just fine for safeties, and he posted a 10'2" broad jump. Barron was the leader of the Tide secondary for the last few years, and that leadership will translate well to the NFL.

If there is any doubt about how strong the program is that Nick Saban has built in Tuscaloosa, look no further than today's pro day. First-round picks litter the Crimson Tide roster, and based on recent recruiting, that trend will continue.
