CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho: Great Feud Has Been Regretfully Overshadowed

Michael CahillJun 7, 2018

Timing is everything in professional wrestling and for CM Punk and Chris Jericho the timing has been terribly wrong.

What should have been the feud that has captured our attention has been buried beneath storylines bigger than they could possibly compete with.

The Rock and John Cena feud has been pushed for a whole year and with The Rock back on TV, it was a no-brainer to be put front and center.

The only thing that matters more to 'Mania at this point in time than Rock and Cena is Undertaker's streak. It’s the one thing that comes with 'Mania and the WWE will make everything they can out of it, including bringing Triple H and Shawn Michaels into the mix to sell it right.

That doesn’t leave much room for a feud that has all the potential to be one of the best in WWE in a long time.

CM Punk and Chris Jericho aren’t not just two of the best in the ring, but they are two of the best on the mic. They are pros and they know how to sell a program as well as anyone.

While Jericho’s character felt odd and disjointed at first (the persona of never talking only to have slipped completely past that now feels weird) he’s found his groove attacking the WWE champ personally and really feeling as if he’s found a weakness in Punk’s tough bravado.

There is no question as to why the WWE wanted this feud for 'Mania, but they haven’t given it the chance to take center stage. While they’ll have plenty of time to share the spotlight in the next few months, nothing will ever be the same as the first match. By the time the masses look back on WrestleMania 28, it will have been buried by bigger matches.

This is such a shame because it’s been the best worked program.. It’s felt real and authentic. It’s been well sold and the payoff will be great, even if no one remembers it.
