2012 NFL Draft: Most Likely Landing Spots for Big 12's Biggest Stars

Cameron McCauleyJun 7, 2018

Year after year, the Big 12 is loaded with talent that can transition easily to the NFL. This year, the conference is poised to have some of the better prospects when the NFL draft comes around in April.

Here are seven prospects who will transition well to the NFL, and the teams that will suit them best.

Justin Blackmon

1 of 7

Blackmon's combination of size, speed and strength are a few of the reasons why he is regarded as the best wide receiver prospect in the draft. In his junior season at Oklahoma State, Blackmon caught an astonishing 121 balls for 1,522 yards and 18 touchdowns.

It is easy to compare him to former OSU Cowboy (and now Dallas Cowboy) Dez Bryant in stature, but Blackmon has even more upside and a more decorated career in Stillwater.

His talents are needed by a few teams who sit high on the draft list in the first round.

Potential teams: Browns, Rams, Vikings

Ryan Tannehill

2 of 7

Tannehill is one of the more questionable players in the draft. He has good athleticism and can make plays, but is still raw at quarterback after spending his first two and a half years at Texas A&M at wide receiver.

He didn't accomplish much at A&M in terms of winning, but scouts love him for having that 'football player' mentality.

Some team will reach for him since he is the next best thing after Andrew Luck and RG3, and will probably do it within the top 15 picks.

Potential teams: Dolphins, Browns

Kendall Wright

3 of 7

Robert Griffin III's favorite target, Wright showed a multitude of talents on the field while at Baylor. He caught 108 passes for over 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns, all of which were school records. He makes RG3 look like that much of a better quarterback.

Wright ran a disappointing 4.61 40 time at the NFL Combine, which may have slightly hurt his draft stock since he was known mainly as a deep threat. But Wright put on a better showing at the Baylor Pro Day, running two 40s in the mid 4.4 range, according to USA Today

All questions aside, it would be hard-pressed to see Wright slide into the second round.

Potential teams: Titans, Bengals, Texans, Browns

Brandon Weeden

4 of 7

Weeden is somewhat of a mystery. He is considered one of the top-five quarterback prospects in the draft after a decorated career at Oklahoma State, as he threw for 75 touchdowns and over 9,200 yards during his time in Stillwater.

The only real downside to Weeden is that he is will be 29 in October, which may be the key stat that is keeping him from being considered a first-round prospect.

Aside from his age, there will be teams starving for a quarterback, probably in the second or third round.

Potential teams: Browns, Jaguars, Dolphins, Seahawks

Jamell Fleming

5 of 7

Fleming is one of the more physical cornerback prospects in the draft. He is an excellent cover guy, and also can step up and make plays at the line of scrimmage because of his size (5'11" 206 pounds).

Lewis is being caught up in the clutter of some of the elite corner guys in the draft, and he could end up being a sleeper pick because of it. A second- or third-round pick seems like the right place for Fleming.

Potential teams: Cowboys, Patriots, Colts, Chargers

Cyrus Gray

6 of 7

Gray was a great talent at Texas A&M when he was able to stay healthy. He ran for over 3,200 yards and 30 touchdowns during his four-year career at A&M. He is an elusive back who can catch balls out of the backfield, similar to a LeSean McCoy.

Gray certainly isn't an every-down back in the NFL, but can provide help to any team that takes him. Look for Gray to go in the third or fourth round.

Potential teams: Seahawks, Ravens, Bills, Colts

Kheeston Randall

7 of 7

A force up front during his time at Texas, Randall was one of the better defensive-line prospects to come out of the Big 12. He could fit in as a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme as a guy who can make plays against the run.

Randall won't necessarily wow any scouts with his athletic ability, but is a guy who can join a team and make plays for them. Expect Randall to go somewhere in the middle rounds.

Possible teams: Redskins, Cowboys, Buccaneers
