Masters 2012 Odds: Why You Should Steer Clear of Tiger Woods at Augusta

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

Now that Tiger Woods has finally won a tournament, breaking a winless streak dating back to 2009, pundits and bookies alike can finally return him to the favorite perch he sat upon for so many years.

But that doesn't mean you should buy the hype.

There are better players out there than the man that has won only one tournament since 2009, even if the odds suggest Tiger is the favorite.

Consider the following, from CBS Sports:

"

"He's putting well. He's chipping well. He's driving well," said Rupert Adams, a spokesman for British bookmaker William Hill. "The armor looks to be back in place again, and actually possibly the aura. Once again he's got the swagger back in his step."

William Hill has Woods listed as the 4-1 favorite to win his fifth Masters title, with Rory McIlroy close behind at 5-1. Other bookies have similar odds, with Ladbrokes quoting the same numbers as William Hill. Paddy Power and Coral both have Woods as the 7-2 favorite with McIlroy next at 9-2.

"

It's a smart move to make Woods the favorite—with Tiger's name all over the news this weekend after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational, so close to the Masters, people were going to jump back on his bandwagon.

He's Tiger Woods, after all. People have been waiting for a return to form for some time now.

But don't simply assume that Woods' "return to form" is upon us just yet.

There are plenty of golfers capable of winning the Masters, and I would be remiss if I put all of my eggs in the basket of a man who, once again, has only won one tournament since 2009.

Woods winning the Masters is too good to be true. I don't think he's back just yet.

Even if golf fans everywhere want to see the Tiger of old return.

Hit me up on Twitter—my tweets have won a lot since 2009.
