NFL Free Agents 2012: Most Underrated Players on the Market

Ryan RudnanskyJun 2, 2018

Most of the NFL's big names have been grabbed at this point in free agency, but there are still plenty of under-the-radar players who can make a difference on the football field.

Whether it be an underrated offensive lineman, an ageless linebacker or a defensive tackle who's finally healthy, there's still a good deal of talent out there.

Here's a look at the three most underrated unrestricted free agents on the market.

Antonio Garay, DT

Antonio Garay had a rough start to his career. He constantly struggled with injuries, playing in just 16 games from 2003 to 2009.

But in 2010, Garay finally stayed on the field for a full 16 games, and he proved to be a strong run-stuffer who could also rush the passer, with 5.5 sacks. He followed that up with a solid season as the starting nose tackle for the San Diego Chargers last season.

Garay has the strength to command double teams and the initial quickness to surprise and get to the quarterback at times.

London Fletcher, LB

London Fletcher has been a productive player for years in the NFL, a tackling machine who won a Super Bowl with the St. Louis Rams in 2000.

He's 36 years old now, but, the ironic thing is, all three of his Pro Bowl selections have come in the past three seasons. He's racked up at least 116 tackles in his past 12 seasons and had a career-high 166 tackles as the leader of an improved Washington Redskins unit in 2011.

Vernon Carey, G

Offensive linemen generally don't get noticed as much as other players, but I'm still shocked Vernon Carey has yet to find a home.

Carey, the No. 19 overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft, had just one penalty all season long in 2011 and he's allowed an average of just four sacks since the 2005 season.

Carey will inevitably begin declining at 31 years of age, but he still has a few more years left in him and he was solid for the Miami Dolphins last season.
