NFL News, Trade and Free Agency Rumors Roundup
You’d never know there’s a real offseason in the NFL if you’ve been following all the moves around the league since free agency and the league year kicked off two weeks ago. Here’s a roundup of the latest news for the early part of this week.
The St. Louis Rams made another move to add a receiver, this time picking up veteran Steve Smith, most recently of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Smith was the fifth receiver on the Eagles depth chart last year, and as such, barely made an impact. In St. Louis, however, he will have an opportunity to revive his career with Sam Bradford throwing to him.

Another older veteran is getting a little attention—running back Cedric Benson. The 29-year-old free agent could end up on the Cleveland Browns this offseason, though general manager Tom Heckert said it’s “not on their front burner.”
The New England Patriots made a major move to improve their running game, snagging fullback Tony Fiammetta away from the Dallas Cowboys, where he was an unrestricted free agent.
Fiammetta proved he’s one of the best blocking fullbacks in the league last year, leading the way for DeMarco Murray to have an excellent late-season showing.
In quarterback news, Denver Bronco Peyton Manning had an informal workout with teammates on Monday.
Wide receiver Eric Decker said Manning threw well; more of these players-only practices are likely in the coming weeks as Manning learns his new offense and continues to recover from four neck surgeries.
Finally, the New York Jets fed new quarterback Tim Tebow to the media on Monday afternoon. Tebow gushed over his excitement to play for the Jets and added that he and starter Mark Sanchez have already developed a good friendship over the years.
