Is Claudio Pizarro poised to make a return to Bayern Munich?

If the club's honorary president Franz Beckenbauer is to be believed, it seems to be a distinct possibility.

"I have read about Pizarro and he is still one of the best, even at the age of 33.''

"The goals he scores, the way he moves—there is no sign of age there. In my eyes, it would make sense to sign Claudio,' he said.

Mario Gomez is no doubt the main man at the Allianz Arena, currently sitting top of the scoring charts with 23, one ahead of Schalke hitman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

However, behind him come wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, add to the mix the imminent departure of Ivica Olic and a new striker could be on the agenda this summer.

Peruvian Pizarro has become the all-time top overseas goalscorer in the Bundesliga since his return to those shores following an unhappy spell in the Premier League with Chelsea.

His 141 goals thus far is eight ahead of Giovane Elber, another ex-Bayern striker.

With his Werder Bremen contract due to expire next year and no signs of a new one being signed, Pizarro would no doubt come relatively cheap compared with other targets.

However, would a stop-gap striker be the way forward?

Or would a younger option make more sense?

Huntelaar may be leaving Schalke, and has more than proved he has the ability in the Bundesliga.

One signing already on his way to the club is Tobias Schweinsteiger, older brother of Bastian.

It is unlikely they will grace the same pitch however, with him having been signed to play in the reserve side, but he will be eligible for the seniors if required.

Tobias arrives from Jahn Regensburg in the third division, where he is captain and top scorer.
