WrestleMania 28: Ranking Greatest Performances from The Undertaker

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

The Undertaker is one of those WWE characters that you just can't explain to people.

The Deadman is a gimmick character that has lasted 20 years, which almost never happens in this business. WrestleMania has been his playground since debuting and The Streak invokes as much passion from fans as seeing who the champion is.

As great as Undertaker's character is and how well WWE has been able to build up The Streak, he has not always had great WrestleMania matches. Not all of that is his fault, as he was put in there with some of the worst performers the company had to offer.

Yet, there is still something special about hearing the gong and seeing Undertaker walk out at WrestleMania.

What we want to do is provide you with a list of Undertaker's best performances during his 19-match WrestleMania winning streak.

Honorable Mention: vs. Batista (WrestleMania 23)

This was the first really great match of Undertaker's WrestleMania streak, in my opinion. There were others that look solid in retrospect, but this is the one where you really got the feel for how important The Streak was.

It was also a coming-out party for Batista, who had been one of the top stars for a long time but had been mired in mediocrity from an in-ring standpoint.

These two had the best match on the show, and Undertaker won the world title for the first time.

No. 3: vs. Triple H (WrestleMania 27)

A polarizing match for a lot of fans because it was slow with a lot of big moves, but you have to focus on the story Undertaker and Triple H were telling.

Neither wrestler could do the things that they were able to in their prime. Instead, they used all the gimmicks they could think of to beat the hell out of each other for 30 minutes.

Triple H controlled the match but nothing he did was good enough to keep Undertaker down. The finish was terrific, with the resurrection of the gogoplata forcing Triple H to tap as he is reaching for the sledgehammer.

No. 2: vs. Edge (WrestleMania 24)

While WrestleMania 24 will always be remembered for Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair "I'm sorry. I love you," don't forget about the main event between Edge and Undertaker for the world title.

Edge was at his peak in this match, Undertaker was as healthy as he had been in a long time, and these two had one of the better WrestleMania main event matches of the last 10 years.

This was the second consecutive year that Undertaker won the world title at WrestleMania, and it continued his momentum of being able to have great 'Mania matches.

No. 1: vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania 25 and 26)

I am copping out a little bit here, but Undertaker's two matches with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania will always be the standard by which all his other 'Mania matches get judged.

The first match really came out of nowhere.

Fans expected it to be very good because of the history that these two stars have, and their ability to captivate an audience, but no one knew that it would end up being one of the best WrestleMania matches ever.

The rematch had all the hype in the world surrounding it because of what happened the previous year, yet the two superstars managed to deliver.

Facial expressions in a wrestling match often don't get noticed, but pay attention to the way Undertaker uses his eyes to add more drama to these matches. Phenomenal performances from two outstanding matches, and the gold-standard for Undertaker at WrestleMania.
