Alabama Football Recruiting: Tide Steal Georgia OL as Ninth Commit of 2013 Class
The Alabama Crimson Tide haven't made the most noise on the 2013 recruiting trail, but they're still landing the kids they want—even ones from rival states with offers from rival schools.
Today, the Tide landed their ninth commitment of the year, offensive lineman Andy Dodd from Pepperell High School in Lindale, Ga. If that school rings a bell, it is because Dodd is the former teammate of 2012 Alabama signee Dakota Ball.
Dodd, a Rivals 3-star recruit, checks in at about 6'4", 315 pounds. He was quoted by ESPN when asked about his choice to go to Tuscaloosa:
"Alabama knows what they’re doing. It’s already a set program. They win. Not many programs can sit there and say that they’re going to consistently be in the running to win a national championship.
"
He's certainly right in that respect.
Other schools that have made offers to Dodd include in-state powers Georgia and Georgia Tech, as well as Florida State and South Carolina.
Although he's not the biggest of names, Dodd certainly had some of the biggest names in college football chasing him.
He reportedly wanted to put the recruiting process behind him before the start of his senior year and also said that the opportunity to play with a former high school teammate was a big draw for him.
Dodd joins a Crimson Tide class already featuring two linemen: 4-star Grant Hill and 4-star Bradley Bozeman. The 2013 class is headlined by 5-star linebacker Reuben Foster, 4-star tight end O.J. Howard, 4-star running back Altee Tenpenny and 4-star athlete ArDarius Stewart.
The class features five recruits out of Alabama, one out of Arkansas and now three, including Dodd, out of Georgia. Saban and the Tide continue to pull from anywhere they want, and it's even sweeter when it comes from rival territory.
You can catch me talking talking football and throwing seven different kinds of smoke on Twitter.
