Breaking NFL News: Parcells Could Be Interim Saints Coach in 2012

Justin SparksMar 26, 2012

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the New Orleans Saints could replace Sean Payton in 2012 as the interim head coach for the club.

The Big Tuna would be a surprising catch for New Orleans as a potential move to the Big Easy looms. Mortensen's report does not outline whether or not Bill Parcels would take the offer; simply that the Saints have extended the option to the coach.

The offer would allow Payton and the current coaching staff to maintain their jobs and provide the franchise with a suitable replacement while Payton sits out his one-year suspension.

Parcells was last directly involved with an NFL franchise as the president of the Miami Dolphins. Although there has been no indication that the job has officially been presented to Parcells or that he has agreed to a position, Mortensen has indicated the Saints are clearly interested.

The move makes a ton of sense and would ease the loss of Payton and GM Mickey Loomis to suspension.

More news to come when the agreement is confirmed.
