Tim Tebow: Why Glitz and Glamour of NYC Will Ruin Tebow's Image

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

Well, it hasn't taken long for Tim Tebow to get the New York City celebrity treatment—that is, his every move being monitored—and it won't change any time soon.

Which means that even if the big city doesn't change Tim Terrific, the fact that we'll be privy to where he eats every meal and the name of every woman he is seen talking to may soon enough change the public's perception of Mr. Tebow.

It didn't take long for TMZ to first spot the polarizing quarterback out and about, enjoying the town.

Tim Tebow's tour of New York City rolled on last night...this time hitting up a modest Italian restaurant...in a PIMPED OUT limo van.

Tebow and his entourage hit up Scarpetta in Chelsea...and judging from the big ol' smile on his face...he's REALLY enjoying his new city.

"

Ah yes, the infamous "PIMPED OUT limo van." It's like the gateway mode of transportation for all of the glitz and glamour New York City has to offer. Next thing you know, Tebow will be heading to the club, bottles of Grey Goose in tow with two ladies hanging off of each arm.

All sarcasm aside, that's how Tebow's every move is now going to be scrutinized in New York City. The natural storyline is going to always be about whether or not the humble, Christian quarterback can withstand the many temptations of the big city.

Every time it even appears he might be having "too much fun," moralists will come out of the woodwork, weaving the "Tim Bites the Big Apple of Temptation" tale, hoping to see him fall short of the reputation he has created for himself.

People are always going to look for his Tiger Woods moment, the chance to prove that Tebow isn't the man he claims to be.

Think about it like this—Tebow went out to dinner with friends and took a van limo, one quite possibly provided to him by the New York Jets organization as a "welcome to town" present. Is that really a big deal at all?

No, it's not.

But because it's Tebow, it intrigues us. We naturally wonder, "Has Tebow changed? Will he become a worldly man? Will the dark secrets some people like to assume he has finally come to light?"

It seems inevitable that Tebow's reputation is going to take a hit, at least initially, in New York City. With his every move being monitored, people are going to make assumptions.

And even in a football sense, Tebow will be scrutinized—is his presence in New York splitting the locker room between pro-Sanchez and pro-Tebow players? Is he making Mark Sanchez feel un-needed pressure? Is the Wildcat really helping the offense? Is Tebow the sort of backup quarterback you want in the first place?

No matter what Tebow does, it's going to be a big deal, on the field and off. It seems more likely this New York experiment will do his reputation more harm than it does him good.

There will be a Tim Tebow movie someday; you can believe that. How that film ends will likely be hinged on how his time in New York plays out.
