Tim Tebow: Jets' New QB Will Replace Mark Sanchez before the Season Ends

Austin GreenJun 7, 2018

Mark Sanchez received a contract extension just two weeks ago, but his job in New York is far from safe.

No, with Tim Tebow lurking in the background, it's only a matter of time before Sanchez is planted on the bench. If he struggles early—and if you've been following the Jets lately, you know that's fairly likely—he's done for in New York.

Rex Ryan has already made it clear that Tebow will play a large role in the offense. He said Tebow could take 20 snaps a game from the Wildcat formation, presumably while Sanchez sits on the pine.

Maybe I'm wrong, but if Ryan is already fine with Tebow taking the majority of the snaps, he'll have no problem ditching Sanchez if he stumbles out of the gate.

If the Jets drop their first game or two of the season, Sanchez will be the easy scapegoat. As soon as he has his first bad game, the pressure from the New York media will intensify, the chants for Tebow will grow louder and the fans will go to excessive lengths to make their opinions known.

In Denver, one of the more mellow big cities in America, fans put up billboards demanding that Tebow replace Kyle Orton. Seeing as how New York is the craziest city on the planet, we can only imagine what stunts the pro-Tebow fans will pull there.

Next season, the Jets have a pretty tough schedule with games against Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Houston and New England (twice). Although Sanchez will likely be the starter in Week 1, I'm expecting Tebow to start in most of those games.

Fair or not, Sanchez is now fighting for his job. Unfortunately for him, I don't think it's a fight he can win.

After a couple poor performances, the Jets organization will turn on him and hand the starting job over to the fan-favorite Tebow.
