Predicting Where the Career of WWE's R-Truth Will Be at a Year from Now

Cory CoolsonJun 7, 2018

You really begin to predict where WWE superstars will be at in a year.

Sometimes it's pretty predictable. I believe that John Cena will be the top babyface of the WWE a year from now. The majority probably agrees with me.

I'm going to predict that JTG will not be an active Raw or SmackDown competitor this time next year.

But then we get to a guy like R-Truth. The past two years of Truth's career have been pretty much like the slope of two folded mountains.

Truth was an under-carder on SmackDown—nobody really cared about him. He formed a tag team with John Morrison that culminated with the duo briefly jobbing to Big Show and The Miz at WrestleMania.

Then he went over to Raw to be within the top three Raw babyfaces—a position that was expected for an injured John Morrison.

After winning and losing the United States Championship, he played the role of John Cena's close friend in the whole Nexus angle. He was taken off TV for a while due to an illness, but by that point, he had already fallen into oblivion.

By Elimination Chamber 2011, he was a joke of an Elimination Chamber entrant. He didn't have an on-air WrestleMania match.

A week later after 'Mania, he unpredictably won a No. 1 Contenders match for the WWE Championship along with John Cena.

A week after that, he lost the No. 1 Contenders spot to John Morrison. But that's the greatest thing to happen to Truth. Upon this, his career resembled the uphill slope of a mountain.

Truth turned heel and went on to main event Capitol Punishment and Survivor Series. But then he got suspended—and then he turned face again. But not to worry, he was still in-gimmick and his career looked to have a fine route.

But then he was the first competitor eliminated in the Raw Elimination Chamber match followed with forming a random tag team with mid-carder-for-life of the decade, Kofi Kingston. Truth was back to where he was a year ago: in a short-term tag team because WWE has nothing for him.

This is where I really start to wonder where Truth will be at in a year. I recapped his career for a reason: not to waste words, but to really analyze his status so I can predict his status later.

I could go on to list a bunch of ideas, but I have a swift feeling WWE is going to turn him heel again. Call this wishful thinking, but when WWE looks back at Truth now and Truth as a heel, they'll probably end up thinking, "We screwed up—just a little."

Remember Randy Orton? He turned babyface for a few months back in 2005 before turning heel again when WWE seemed to have thought to themselves, "this isn't working out."

Remember Edge? How long did his babyface turn last back in 2010? About three months; then WWE turned him heel again when it didn't work out.

I could anticipate Truth being an upper mid-card heel for the SmackDown brand—similar to what Cody Rhodes is now.

For all I know, I could be dead wrong. Truth could be an active babyface for the Superstars brand.

But the fact of the matter is, Vince and Hunter both seem to be high on Truth as a performer, and Vince always likes to find a way to utilize him.

Sure, he pushed him aside for 'Mania season so they can focus on the headliners, but at least he even has a spot in the 12-man tag team match.

The fact that he kept putting Truth in all the Chambers matches and No. 1 Contender matches as a mid-carder shows what they see in him as a performer.

So if you want a broad breakdown of where Truth will be this time next year, it'll be as an upper mid-carder. I'm still not completely sure about the "heel" aspect of it, but he'll be an upper mid-carder in my eyes.

I'm interested in making this a weekly series, but I can't guarantee you anything until I see what you guys think of it. Leave your comment below!
