European Power Rankings: Ranking the Top 25 Clubs in Europe
No room for losers in this top five.
Real Madrid won once, Barcelona won twice, and the rest of B/R's top five stayed on course with wins this weekend in their domestic leagues.
That means there isn't much of a shake-up at the top of this week's power rankings. And despite an eventful week across the continent, the lower part of our top 25 stayed pretty much the same as well.
Who made it? Who got snubbed? Read on to find out.

25. Braga
1 of 25Last week: Drew 2-2 (a.e.t., lost 4-2 on penalties) to Gil Vicente (Taça da Liga semifinal)
This week: Home to Academica de Coimbra, Monday (league)
Comments: Braga trail league-leading Porto by two points with a game in hand thanks to a run of 12 straight league victories. By Monday night, they could top the league.
24. Basel
2 of 25Last week: 5-0 at home to Servette (league)
This week: At FC Thun, Saturday (league)
Comments: Basel relieved some of their post-Bayern frustration on Servette. Next up is FC Thun for the Swiss champions-elect.
23. Valencia
3 of 25Last week: Lost 2-1 at home to Real Zaragoza; lost 3-1 at Getafe (both in league)
This week: Home to Levante, Sunday (league)
Comments: It was an awful week, but Valencia are still third in La Liga on goal differential. They get a quick shot at redemption when fifth-placed Levante visit next Sunday.
22. Napoli
4 of 25Last week: Won 2-0 (won 3-2 on aggregate) at home to Siena (Coppa Italia); drew 2-2 at home to Catania (league)
This week: At Juventus, Sunday (league)
Comments: The draw against Catania wasn't great, but Napoli reached the Coppa Italia final by beating Siena this week in the semis. Three points behind Lazio for third place in Serie A, Napoli still have time to qualify for next season's Champions League.
21. Lazio
5 of 25Last week: Won 1-0 at home to Cagliari (league)
This week: At Parma, Saturday (league)
Comments: Lazio ended their two-game losing streak thanks to Mobido Diakite's late goal against Cagliari. With nine matches left, they lead Udinese and Napoli by three points in the race for Italy's third and final Champions League spot.
20. Borussia Monchengladbach
6 of 25Last week: Drew 0-0 (a.e.t., lost 4-2 on penalties) at home to Bayern Munich (DFB-Pokal semifinal); lost 2-1 at home to TSG Hoffenheim (league)
This week: At Hannover 96, Sunday (league)
Comments: So close. Gladbach took Bayern Munich to penalties in the DFB-Pokal semis but lost 4-2 in the shootout. Then they suffered a letdown against Hoffenheim, who dealt Gladbach their first home loss of the season.
That sent Gladbach to fourth place, two points behind Schalke. That's still good enough for the Champions League qualifiers.
19. Ajax
7 of 25Last week: Won 2-0 at home to PSV (league)
This week: Home to SC Heracles Almelo, Sunday (league)
Comments: Ajax have won seven straight league matches after Sunday's 2-0 victory over PSV. AZ Alkmaar's lead atop the Eredivisie table is now just one point.
18. Schalke
8 of 25Last week: Won 2-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen (league)
This week: At TSG Hoffenheim, Sunday (league)
Comments: This team is on a nice little roll. Schalke have won four straight games in all competitions and are now third in the Bundesliga. Finishing there would mean automatic qualification for the Champions League group stage next season.
17. Zenit St. Petersburg
9 of 25Last week: Drew 1-1 at home to Rubin Kazan (league)
This week: At Spartak Moscow, Saturday (league)
Comments: Zenit are still on track for the Russian title. So why am I not entirely impressed?
16. AZ Alkmaar
10 of 25Last week: Lost 4-2 at home to SC Heracles Almelo (KNVB Beker semis); won 1-0 at home to RKC Waalwijk (league)
This week: At Vitesse Arnhem, Sunday (league)
Comments: That was a shocking loss in the cup semis, especially since AZ led 2-1 before giving up an equalizer in the second half. But then they allowed two more goals in extra time.
Ick. Anyway, AZ still top the Dutch league by one point.
15. Chelsea
11 of 25Last week: Lost 2-1 at Manchester City (league); drew 0-0 at home to Spurs (league)
This week: At Benfica, Tuesday (UCL); at Aston Villa, Saturday (league)
Comments: The revival seems to have slowed. I smell a loss to Benfica this week in the Champions League (followed by a furious comeback in the second leg).
14. Tottenham Hotspur
12 of 25Last week: Drew 1-1 at home to Stoke; drew 0-0 at Chelsea (league)
This week: Home to Bolton Wanderers, Tuesday (FA Cup quarters); home to Swansea City, Sunday (league)
Comments: Spurs stopped the bleeding. Sort of. Tottenham are still five points ahead of Chelsea, and drawing is better than losing, but they've taken just two points out of last 15 available.
When will it stop?
13. Porto
13 of 25Last week: Lost 3-2 to Benfica (Taça da Liga semis); drew 1-1 at Ferreira, Sunday (league)
This week: At Olhanense, Saturday (league)
Comments: Porto crashed out of the league cup against Benfica and could only draw at Ferreira in the league. Their lead stands at one point over Benfica and two over Braga—who have a game in hand.
12. Montpellier
14 of 25Last week: Lost 1-0 at Ajaccio (French Cup quarters); won 1-0 at home to St. Etienne (league)
This week: Home to Sochaux, April 7 (league)
Comments: Montpellier took over top spot in Ligue 1 thanks to that win over St. Etienne—and a draw by PSG.
11. Benfica
15 of 25Last week: Beat Porto 3-2 (Taça da Liga semis); drew 0-0 at Olhanense (league)
This week: Home to Chelsea, Tuesday (UCL); home to Braga, Saturday (league)
Comments: Benfica are still alive in the league, league cup and Champions League. This week features a tough test against Chelsea.
10. PSG
16 of 25Last week: Lost 3-1 at home to Lyon (French Cup quarters); drew 1-1 at home to Bordeaux, (league)
This week: Home to AS Nancy Lorraine, Saturday (league)
Comments: PSG's expensively-assembled squad is struggling, but there's still time to make things right. After this weekend's draw, PSG trail Montpellier on goal differential at the top of the Ligue 1 table. Lille are seven points back.
9. Arsenal
17 of 25Last week: Won 1-0 at Everton; won 3-0 at home to Aston Villa (league)
This week: At QPR, Saturday (league)
Comments: What a goal by Mikel Arteta, eh? It was fitting for Arsenal's recent revival.
8. Juventus
18 of 25Last week: Drew 2-2 (won 4-3 on aggregate) at home to AC Milan (Coppa Italia); won 2-0 at home to Inter Milan (league)
This week: Home to Napoli, Sunday (league)
Comments: Juventus finished off AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semis and kept winning in the league. Life is good at the moment.
7. Manchester City
19 of 25Last week: Won 2-1 at home to Chelsea; drew 1-1 at Stoke City (league)
This week: Home to Sunderland, Saturday (league)
Comments: City top the Premier League after coming from behind to beat Chelsea and drawing with Stoke. But it may only be temporary. Manchester United are level on points with a game in hand, and they play Fulham on Monday.
6. Manchester United
20 of 25Last week: No new results.
This week: Home to Fulham, Monday (league)
Comments: City drew level on points with 1-1 draw at Stoke and took over top spot on goal differential. But United still have game in hand, and they’re on a roll.
5. Bayern Munich
21 of 25Last week: Drew 0-0 (a.e.t., won 4-2 on penalties) at Borussia Monchengladbach (DFB-Pokal semifinal); won 2-1 at home to Hannover 96 (league)
This week: At Marseille, Wednesday (UCL); at Nürnberg, Saturday (league)
Comments: The scoring binge ended. The winning run didn’t. Bayern beat Gladbach on penalties in the German cup and won their third straight in the league.
4. Borussia Dortmund
22 of 25Last week: Won 1-0 (a.e.t.) at SpVgg Greuther Fürth (DFB-Pokal semifinal); won 6-1 at Köln (league)
This week: Home to VfB Stuttgart, Friday (league)
Comments: Dortmund grabbed a dramatic win in the German cup thanks to Ilkay Gündogan's 120th-minute goal. In the league, their unbeaten run is now 21 games, and they've won 10 of 11.
And yet the lead over Bayern is still only five points.
3. AC Milan
23 of 25Last week: Drew 2-2 (lost 4-3 on aggregate) at Juventus (Coppa Italia semis); won 2-1 at home to AS Roma (league)
This week: Home to Barcelona, Wednesday (UCL); at Catania, Saturday (league)
Comments: The Coppa Italia loss hurt, but the league is still Milan's to lose. The heavyweight bout against Barca is next.
2. Real Madrid
24 of 25Last week: Drew 1-1 at Villarreal; won 5-1 at home to Real Sociedad (league)
This week: Home to APOEL Nicosia, Tuesday (UCL); at Osasuna, Saturday (league)
Comments: Real had their lead atop La Liga chopped to six points after a second straight draw, this one against relegation-threatened Villarreal. The frustration started to show, with players and manager refusing to grant interviews afterwards.
But they got right back on track at the weekend. APOEL shouldn't be too much of a problem in the Champions League.
1. Barcelona
25 of 25Last week: Won 5-3 at home to Granada; won 2-0 at Mallorca (league)
This week: At AC Milan, Wednesday (UCL); home to Athletic Bilbao, Saturday (league)
Comments: It was a wild week. Barca blew a 2-0 lead against Granada but won anyway. Messi scored another hat-trick and became the club’s all-time leading scorer at the age of 24.
Not bad.
