Tim Tebow: Antonio Cromartie Makes Fool of Himself Back-Peddling on Tweet
What had happened was...that is exactly how New York Jets' CB Antonio Cromartie's most recent comments about Tim Tebow come off.
In case you missed it, Mr. Cromartie tweeted this before the Tebow to the Jets trade was completed:
""We don't need Tebow...Our wildcat offense can b ran by J. Kerley or Joe McKnight we straight."

That sounds like a "diss" to me, but Cromartie has since changed his tune a bit since Tebow will now be wearing the green and white.
Now Cromartie is quoted in a different matter:
""I think a lot of people took what I said the wrong way. People took it as me dissing Tebow. I never dissed Tebow. I just said we don't need him on our team because Mark (Sanchez) is our quarterback."
"I would never degrade an NFL player because he's in the NFL for a reason. Tebow's proven over the past couple years why he's in the NFL. I would never take a shot at any NFL player. He's been a winner all his life. He's pulled his teams out of predicaments. I'm not the kind of person that would degrade or belittle someone in the NFL."

It's OK to make a bold statement.
Someone, somewhere will either agree with you, or at least applaud your gall. But when you come behind them with lame pseudo innocent clarification, it makes you look bad and undisciplined.
Come on Antonio, "Our Wildcat offense can b ran by J.Kerley and Joe McKnight", that's not an insult?
First off, Tebow is going to be the backup QB, who may be used in that formation. Even if he is only going to be a Wildcat option, part of what makes the formation effective, is that the player that takes the snap can actually throw it.
Saying that a WR or RB is a better threat than Tebow is an insult.
It's also an insult to assume that all he'll be is a package player. To further drive home the insult, Cromartie is speaking about the fact that the Jets attendance situation is already satisfactory.
So now Tebow is just there for the fans?
It's clear in the verbiage and tone of the tweets that Cromartie meant these things as an insult.
And you know what, that's fine if that's how you feel, but stick to it.
I hate when athletes don't think before they speak (or tweet), get blasted for their comments and then after the fact, they come back with ridiculously insincere words to smooth things over.
It's lame in every way.
I respect a person who stands by what they say, but then can admit that they were wrong.
It's hard to respect someone who makes a comment, but because of the pressure from the media or his peers, tries to deceive me about their intentions.
Man up Antonio.
