NCAA Women's Tournament 2012: Teams Capable of Knocking off Undefeated Baylor

Justin WeltonMar 24, 2012

Brittney Griner and Baylor have been unbelievable in 2011-12. They should find a way to get the job done by winning the 2012 national championship. There isn't a team that matches up with them from a talent standpoint.

However, that's why they play the games.

Notre Dame and Connecticut are the only two teams capable of giving Baylor its first loss of the season. Here's why.

Notre Dame

Any time a team has a player like Skylar Diggins, you have a great chance of pulling off the upset. She can light it up from any spot on the floor while scoring in a variety of ways.

She can take it to the hole, knock down the outside shot and burn you in transition.

Natalie Novosel scored 28 points in a victory against California last round. If she can score like that, helping Diggins out, Notre Dame is a scary team going forward.

Not only can Notre Dame compete with any team in the country, they can beat any team in the country—even Baylor.

Connecticut

Don't count out Geno Auriemma and the Connecticut Huskies. He's not just a great coach because of the players he recruits—he's a great coach because he knows what positions to put his kids in.

Connecticut's defense has been outstanding. They held Kansas State to the lowest total (26 points) in NCAA women's tournament history.

If they get that type of defensive effort mixed in with the talent level they carry, the Huskies have a great opportunity to knock off Baylor if they meet.

Despite Baylor being dominant this season, all it takes is one lousy game and it could all be for nothing. Just because they look like they are a shoe-in for the national championship, don't count out Notre Dame or Connecticut because they would give Baylor everything they could handle.
