2012 NBA Draft: Kendall Marshall and Biggest Question Marks of 1st Round

Kelly ScalettaJun 7, 2018

With the NCAA tournament underway and the NBA trade deadline passed, attention is now beginning to turn to the 2012 NBA draft. There are some players, such as Anthony Davis, who are sure things. Then there are some potential first-round picks who have some big question marks.

Here are the biggest ones.

Will Michael Kidd-Gilchrist Come out or Not?

According to Chad Ford of ESPN, a source "close to him" is saying:

"

He hopes he'll be able to announce right after they win the NCAA championship. But even if they don't win it all, he's coming. He knows he's going to be a top-five pick. He can't pass that up.

"

The same article also stated that Kidd-Gilchrist countered the report, tweeting:

"

I don't know where this is coming from. This is MY decision. Right now all I'm focused on my Teammates and winning Games. After the season Ill (sic) make a decision that's best for me and my family!

"

Kidd-Gilchrist is a potential top-three pick, and whether he comes out or not makes a huge difference in the draft.

Andre Drummond

He has an impressive NBA body, but according to both Chad Ford and NBAdraft.net, there is some question about how badly he wants to be the best he can be.

Is he the next superstar, or is he the next bust? He could be either, as he has all the tools, but how much he works on his game has been questioned.

Is Perry Jones III a Top Five Pick?

Jones should be, but he's not living up to what his talent should dictate.

We see flashes, such as his monster game against Kansas State in the Big 12 tournament. However, he's inconsistent, and at other times, disappears. He could be an All-Star, or he could be a bust.

Who is the Best Zeller, Cody or Tyler?

After his dynamic performance against Anthony Davis, the younger Zeller (Cody) started getting hyped as a player that might be one and done after all.

That leaves the question: Who is the best Zeller? Perhaps to figure it out, scouts could have them enter a Zelling bee?

Both could go in the top half of the draft. I'd take the younger first, as he has more room to develop and will inevitably be the better player.

Kendall Marshall

He might be the best pure passer in the draft, but he's not much of a scorer.

There are two questions that Marshall presents: Is he going to be able to develop enough of a shot? And how long will it take his wrist to heal?

Austin Rivers

Rivers is a big question in terms of how high he should go.

There are some scouts, per Chad Ford, that have him ranked top six, although he says other GMs are telling him he's too low at 15.

NBAdraft.net has him going 11th. It seems no one has a bead on him.
