Boston Bruins Midseason Awards

Joe AscherJan 15, 2009

Here are a few midseason awards I am handing out to the Big, Bad, Bruins:

Most Improved Player - David Krecji

This guy has completely turned around. He would be a first-line centre on most teams in the league. An absolute crime he is not in the All-Star game.

MVP - Mark Savard

He is the most offensive player on the team. Would be the hardest to replace. Could be the best set-up man in the game.

Honorable mention - Tim Thomas, Zedeno Chara

Best Fighter - Milan Lucic

Honorable mention - Shawn Thornton

Wouldn't want to meet either of these guys in a dark alley.

Best Goalie - Tim Thomas, Manny Fernandez

Take your pick. Their numbers are almost identical but Thomas has had a few more starts.

Biggest disappointments - Patrice Bergeron

Not because of his play but because he got hurt again just as he was starting to get back to the form he is capable of.

Honorable Mention - Marco Sturm

A big loss for the Bruins. This guy has had no luck this year. He just comes back from a concussion, plays one period, gets a goal—and then hurts his knee and is gone for the season. I feel bad for him because I'm sure he wants to be playing—especially this year with this team.

Best Rookie - Blake Wheeler

Where did they find this guy? He's big, physical, great puck-handler—and he's a rookie? Thanks, Phoenix!

Best Defenseman - Chara, Wideman

Either one. Maybe Chara because of his physical prowess. Guys try to take runs at him and just bounce right off. Just ask the Habs' Kotsopoulos.

Biggest Win of the year has to be any time they take down Montreal. Probably that 6-1 shellacking. But the 3-1 win Tuesday was huge too.

Best Pummelling has to be when Lucic taught Komisarek a lesson. I could watch that over and over again.

So far has the Bruins have been the league biggest surprise but now its crunch time and every game is more and more important. We will have to see if they can keep it going.
