Andrew Luck's Pro Day Proves Stanford QB Is Undisputed First Pick in 2012 Draft

Ryan PhillipsJun 4, 2018

Here's a big surprise: Andrew Luck owned Stanford's pro day. The presumptive top pick in the 2012 NFL Draft showed his stuff in front of an army of scouts and solidified himself as the best player in this year's class.

Luck completed 46 of 50 passes, but three of those incompletions were the result of drops by his receivers. That includes a 70-yard-plus heave that receiver Chris Owusu dropped in the end zone. It was Luck's final pass of the day and came at the request of scouts who wanted to test the quarterback's arm strength.

Test passed.

More than 125 league scouts and executives were on hand and I haven't read one account of someone that came away unimpressed.

Baylor's Robert Griffin III has made a push to close the gap between himself and Luck, but he simply hasn't done enough to surpass the best quarterback prospect to enter the NFL in a decade. Griffin was impressive at his pro day, as well, and while he has tremendous upside, he will end up being the second pick in this year's draft.

Luck is just too good, too polished and too smart. He has everything a team could want in a franchise quarterback and that was on display Thursday afternoon in Palo Alto, California.

Stanford's quarterback has left no doubt that he is far and away the best player in the 2012 NFL Draft and on April 26 his name will be the first one called. While Griffin has done a nice job closing the gap, anyone who thinks he should be taken ahead of Luck has no idea what they are talking about (looking in your direction Merrill Hoge).
