Tim Tebow Choosing New York Jets over Going Home Proves He's Right for New York

When you come to play in New York, it's one thing to show up and actually play, but it's another thing to want to be here, and that's exactly why Tim Tebow is now a member of the New York Jets.

Reports have differed as to who actually chose Tebow's new team: Tebow himself or Denver Broncos' VP, John Elway.

First, Elway stated that they allowed Tebow to be involved in choosing his new destination.

"We did," Elway said in a radio interview with ESPN 102.3 Denver. "There was more from Jacksonville, but we looked at it, and it was close enough. We were in contact with Tim throughout the day and talked to him, and he knew what was going on the whole time. So the reports that he was not involved are not accurate."

Tebow, on the other hand, begged to differ with Elway's statement.

"I really didn’t have any (say)," Tebow said, when asked if he chose the Jets over the Jaguars. "The Broncos had all that power."

I'm not sure who's telling the truth and we may never know, but I think I have a good idea about what's going on here.

It seems to me that Tebow is using his well-known, honest, Christian background in order to cover up the fact he might have chosen the Jets over his hometown team, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It could have been because the Jags weren't all on the same page about bringing him in, or maybe it was the fact that Tebow knew he'd have a much tougher challenge coming to New York and succeeding despite having a lesser role.

Not to mention the various other financial opportunities that the big city can bring.

So if I'm correct, Tebow actually chose to be here. He chose the bright lights of New York over Jacksonville.

Any athlete who plays in this state knows it isn't easy. Every sport has a die-hard fan base who are more involved than is the norm for fans of a professional sports team. They know everyone and everything that goes on with their teams on a daily basis.

The fact that Tebow might have wanted to come here, spurning his hometown, means he's aware and ready for all the challenges playing in the Big Apple can bring. He's ready for the overwhelming media attention and fan scrutiny that come along with it.

But also, he must know that if he succeeds, Tebow will be recognized in this state much more than any other possible destination he could have gone to.

Talk about getting off on the right foot. Tebow has all the goods to make it in this town (mental toughness and good work ethic) and the first sign of that was choosing to play in the toughest sports town on the planet, not running away from it.
