Ramon Sessions Is Missing Piece in Lakers' Championship Puzzle

Matt ShetlerJun 7, 2018

It's been well documented about the Los Angeles Lakers struggles at the point guard position all season long.

It looks like they may have found their man.

The struggles of Derek Fisher and Steve Blake prompted Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak to go out and acquire Ramon Sessions from the Cleveland Cavaliers, and if last night's performance against the Dallas Mavericks is any indication, the Lakers may have found the missing piece in a possible championship run.

Seesions scored 17 points and added nine assists in only his fourth game since being acquired at the trade deadline.

The way he did it though gives the Lakers hope for the rest of the season.

Sessions penetrated right into the teeth of the Mavericks defense and got himself some easy baskets, but more importantly created a ton of open looks for his teammates in the process.

That's an element that was missing when Harper and Blake ran the offense as a duo.

He also has other skills that were missing.

Sessions is a great pick-and-roll guard who also excels in transition. Once he gets into the paint, plenty positive things can happen, as he's always looking to set up teammates. Head coach Mike Brown was certainly impressed and it may not be long before he turns the offense over to Sessions, telling the Associated Press:

"

"The kid Sessions made the game easy for everybody," Lakers coach Mike Brown said. "He had a very good all-around game. You can see how his speed can help us, his ability to ... turn the corner and get into the teeth of the defense."

"

His speed is the key. It's definitely an element that Fisher and Blake couldn't bring to the offense.

Now that the Lakers have it, it's foreseeable they could go on a roll and make a serious postseason run.

They might have just found the missing piece to get it done.
