College Football Recruiting 2013: Vernon Hargreaves III Is Best CB in Class
Vernon Hargreaves III has more to think about than most rising seniors in his recruiting class.
Not only does the consensus five-star cornerback have a ridiculous list of offers from teams across the country, but one of them happens to be from the same program where his father currently coaches.
Vernon II is the special teams coordinator and defensive ends coach at South Florida. The family currently resides in Tampa, where Vernon III plays for Wharton.
At 5'10", 177 lbs., he's a top-notch cover cornerback with room to grow and elite potential.
Nearly every major program in the country, from Alabama to Wake Forest, has offered the stud defender a full ride in hopes of acquiring his services for the next four years. The Bulls can't expect special treatment—not when the Crimson Tide, Wolverines, Irish, Hurricanes and Bulldogs (among many others) are knocking on the door.
In fact, the young recruit says his dad talks to him more about other schools than he does about the quickly rising program at USF:
"My parents don't steer me anywhere. You'd think my dad would try to, but my dad leaves it to other coaches. He says he doesn't want any drama about him being my dad. He talks to me about other schools more than USF, about where I'd want to visit.
"
The Hargreaves family's approach to the process is the right one. Ultimately, the decision comes down to what the youngster wants to do.
Vernon III won't have any shortage of options; that much is clear.
The competition for top corner comes down to Hargreaves and Kendall Fuller of Olney, Md. For defensive backs overall, Su'a Cravens of Murrieta, Calif. and Antonio Conner of Batesville, Miss. would join in on the battle.
Come next February, at the latest, Hargreaves III will have to make a tremendously tough decision. But once he makes that decision and takes to the field, he'll be the one making life tremendously tough for opposing receivers.
