Tim Tebow to Jets: Why Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum Should Be Fired

Ryan PhillipsJun 7, 2018

I really don't understand what the New York Jets were thinking when they acquired Tim Tebow from the Denver Broncos. General manager Mike Tannenbaum seems to think that adding the young quarterback to his team's roster will improve its locker room and give starter Mark Sanchez some competition. If he truly believes this is a win-win scenario, then Tannenbaum should be fired immediately.

The Jets just gave Sanchez a three-year, $40.5 million extension on March 9 and by doing so, they have committed themselves to a future with the USC product under center. Adding Tebow, even if he is just going to be a Wildcat quarterback, will only create tension.

As an anonymous Jets player told ESPN's Rich Cimini on Wednesday, "There's going to be a controversy, you just know it."

There is no way Sanchez is happy about this development. The first time he throws a pick-six, people will be calling for Tebow to play. Sanchez's confidence has been shaken before; this will just make things worse.

Tannenbaum didn't exactly put this fire out when he went on ESPN radio today. In fact, he threw gasoline on it.

The Jets GM claimed that if the team's offense was struggling, then they could use a Tebow-centric package more. The obvious next step would be Tebow starting.

After committing so much money to Sanchez, why would Tannenbaum even think about making this move? It makes absolutely no sense. If anything, this will create even more tension in the team's locker room, as some players line up behind Sanchez and others side with Tebow.

Frankly it'll be fun to watch...unless you're a Jets fan.
