New Jersey Nets: Has Deron Williams Already Made Up His Mind About Future?

John NizinskiMar 26, 2012

The success of the New Jersey Nets move to Brooklyn next season relies a lot on whether Deron Williams re-signs with the team.

Their goal all season has been to try and convince him to stay with them long-term. Unfortunately, the Nets are most likely not making the playoffs and Williams has yet to commit to staying.

In the beginning of the season, Williams told WFAN’s Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts that there is a 90 percent chance he re-signs with the Nets.

A big way to ensure Williams stays with the team as they move to Brooklyn, would have been by trading for Dwight Howard. They failed to do that at the trade deadline.

Howard decided to opt-in for next season and stay with the Orlando Magic for now. Williams then told the New York Daily News that he will still become a free agent this summer.

Williams could potentially sign with the Dallas Mavericks this coming offseason. He is from Dallas and has praised the Mavericks.

The Nets season is coming to an end and Williams told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News that the remaining games on the schedule will not impact his decision this offseason. Since the remaining games do not mean anything for the decision that Williams will have to make, has he made up his mind already? Does he already know where he is going to play next season?

Whether it is with the Nets, Mavericks or another team, you would think that his decision is already made if he doesn't care about how the Nets do in the last games. The

The Nets recently acquired Gerald Wallace at the trade deadline. Wallace gives the Nets a versatile All-Star player.

Acquiring a player of Wallace's ability could be important in the decision that William will make. However, Williams apparently will not be influenced by how well or poor he plays with Wallace.

Williams will have to make a difficult decision this offseason, but it appears as if he has already made that decision.
