Tim Tebow Will Divide New York Jets Locker Room After Trade

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

The New York Jets took a huge gamble on Tim Tebow that has since proved to be disastrous. There is simply no way a locker room already steeped in turmoil will survive this trade fiasco.

ESPN reported last night that the New York Jets and Denver Broncos agreed upon a trade sending a fourth and sixth round pick to Denver with Tebow and a seventh round pick going back New York.

Earlier in the day, ESPN reported that the deal had hit a snag due to $5 million the Jets would owe thanks to specifics in Tebow's contract.

Regardless, Tebow is now a member of Gang Green and some of his teammates will have to accept that.

This brings us to the oft opinionated Antonio Cromartie who sounded off on Tim Tebow amid rumors that turned into a trade that turned into a waiting game.

"

We don't need Tebow. We sell out every home game let him go to Jacksonville Tampa or Miami. Our (cont) tl.gd/ghgvjl

— Antonio Cromartie (@ACromartie) March 20, 2012"

Cromartie continued after learning the Jets had legitimate interest.

"

@TheJetsStream I don't know y. We have @Mark_Sanchez and jus signed Drew. Mark has taken us to 2 (cont) tl.gd/ghhed9

— Antonio Cromartie (@ACromartie) March 20, 2012"

At this point, the thought that a big time player with a legion of followers was about to pack his bag for a trip east must have entered Cromartie's mind.

The locker room and fan base had now been sliced and diced and Tebow had not even been traded yet. Fans were calling out Cromartie for not recognizing Tebow's talents.

Then we get to this.

Cromartie tempers his anger a bit but tries the logic route.

"

Look everyone is mad about what I said but u will b okay. I have faith in the guys that we have in (cont) tl.gd/ghtdl0

— Antonio Cromartie (@ACromartie) March 21, 2012"

Cromartie's next tweet says it all. The Jets went out and traded for a quarterback that you simply don't put in the stable to gather dust.

"

Y bring Tebow in when we need to bring in more Weapons for @Mark_Sanchez let's build the team around him. We already signed to 3 year ext.

— Antonio Cromartie (@ACromartie) March 21, 2012"

Tebow is not some regular superstar. He comes with a talent that can only be utilized in the most specific of circumstances and with a following that polarizes the nation.

He is a backup icon that will only serve to divide the New York fan base.

After that, the locker room is sure to be split on the opinion of which quarterback should start or how they feel about Tebow who will no doubt get more than a few chants at home games.

The Jets not only didn't need the quarterback, but they didn't need the headache. This was a risky gamble that is so far inching the Jets toward going bust.
