Tim Tebow's Arrival Would Be Beginning of End for Mark Sanchez in Big Apple

Richard LangfordMay 31, 2018

Mark Sanchez should be Tebowing right now that the stalled trade with the Broncos to bring in the Heisman-winning QB named Tim does not go through.

While Sanchez recently received the backing of his club with a deal, that was reported by Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News, to be worth a total of $58.25 million, Tebow's arrival would make Sanchez's life miserable and make his standing in New York a far more fluid position than that contract suggests.

It would only be a matter of time before Jets fans put in an inordinate amount of pressure on the franchise to make a QB change. This would send Sanchez down the Kyle Orton path.

Last season, Broncos fans completely turned on Kyle Orton until the QB switch was made. It was not long after that that Orton was released. And make no mistake about it, the fans will turn on Sanchez. He is too flawed for them not to.

Sanchez struggled last year. He posted a QB rating of just 78.2. At the root of his problems were foolish mistakes at inopportune moments.

He posted a career-high 26 turnovers—and nine of those turnovers came in the Jets' crucial final three games. They lost all of those games and any chance to make the postseason in the process.

And one thing Tebow does well as a QB is not turn the ball over. Last season, Tebow committed just eight turnovers.

So when Sanchez has the inevitable game, like this four-turnover effort in Week 4 against the Ravens, fans are going to be in riot mode calling for Tebow to take over under center.

The other thing working severely against Sanchez is that his teammates have been questioning his work ethic.

Mehta brought this to light in another article:

"

The consensus among players who spoke to the Daily News was that, at the very least, the Jets must sign a legitimate veteran backup to push their young quarterback.

“We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice,” said one player. “He’s lazy and content because he knows he’s not going to be benched.”

"

No one is ever going to question Tebow's work ethic. This is something that fans will latch onto because even fans that may be willing to tolerate the turnovers are going to have a hard time stomaching a lazy player playing over one that busts his butt.

If Tebow goes to the Jets, it will only be a matter of time before the Jets have no choice to make Tebow the starter, and that will lead to the club releasing Sanchez from his sizable contract.
