Ryan LesterJan 15, 2009

I’ve scoured the fantasy basketball waiver wires to find gems so you don’t have to.

With Baron Davis sidelined, Collins has stepped up his game. In his last five games he’s averaging 15.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 2.2 steals, 0.6 blocks, and 1.4 three-pointers per game.

He’s shooting 47 percent from the floor, 75 percent from the line, and 53.8 percent from three. His Sporting News Salary Cap number is $0.50M, and he’s owned in 1.8 percent of ESPN and nine percent of Yahoo leagues. He qualifies at PG and SG.

Nick Young, Washington

Young has been killin’ it of late with at least 28 points in three of his last four games. In those four games he’s averaging 25.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 2.0 three-pointers per game.

He’s shooting 71.7 percent from the floor, 90.0 percent from the line, and 61.5 percent from downtown. He has a $0.50M SN cap number, and is owned in 6.3 percent of ESPN and 18 percent of Yahoo leagues. He qualifies at SG and SF.

F

Travis Outlaw, Portland

In his last three games, Outlaw—who has one of the coolest last names ever—is averaging 20.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 2.3 three-pointers per game. He’s shooting 47.4 percent from the field, 77.3 percent from the stripe, and 53.8 percent from behind the arc.

He has a $2.81M SN cap number, and is owned in 14.1 percent of ESPN and 50 percent of Yahoo leagues. He qualifies at SF and PF.

Rodney Carney, Minnesota

Carney has found his way into Kevin McHale’s rotation, and with the team’s success, he should continue to play a key role. In his last three games he’s averaging 17.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.0 blocks, and 2.7 three-pointers.

He’s shooting 51.4 percent from the floor, 62.5 percent from the line, and 50 percent from three. He has a $0.50M SN cap number, and is owned in 0.4 percent of ESPN and two percent of Yahoo leagues. He qualifies at SG and SF.

C

Kurt Thomas, San Antonio

He’s not the Kurt Thomas of old, but he still has some value in daily leagues. In his last three games, he’s averaging 7.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 steal, and 0.7 blocks per game. He’s shooting 90.9 percent from the floor and 50 percent (one of two) from the line.

He’s not useful in the SN cap game as his number is a bloated $3.48M, but he’s owned in 0.4 percent of ESPN and two percent of Yahoo leagues if you need a bump in field goal percentage or rebounds. He qualifies at PF and C.
