Manchester City Close To Signing Kaka

David WilsonJan 15, 2009

The Brazilian superstar Kaka is “very close” to a world record-breaking transfer to Eastlands, Manchester City assistant manager Mark Bowen tells BBC Sport.

A Manchester City delegation has been in Milan and reportedly bid about 100m euros for the 26-year-old attacking midfielder. Kaka has said he intends to stay at Serie A giants Milan but Bowen told BBC Sport Wales: “We believe the deal is very close. We are selling the future plans of the club to the player.”

Kaka’s adviser Diogo Kotscho said the 2007 Fifa World Player of the Year would be open to a move to City if Milan wanted to sell.

Reports in the British press claim that while Kaka likes the idea of playing in the Premier League that he wants some assurances that City will be playing Champions League football soon. Reportedly, Kaka wants written guarantees in his contract that during his time at City:

  • Sheikh Mansour remains the owner of the club and continues his substantial investment.
  • City qualify for the Champions League within two years.
  • Robinho is not sold.
  • His representatives remain in sole ownership of his image rights.
  • If any of these terms are broken or not met in his time at the club then a clause will be triggered, allowing him to be moved for a predetermined transfer fee, reducing with each year.

If you are a Man City fan are you happy with this move?
